WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Utah 16-6 in the first ever meeting between the two programs on Saturday morning. The fifth-ranked Hoyas improve to 6-1 on the season while the Utes fall to 3-3. Hoya Highlights Georgetown had eight different goal scorers, led by Dylan Watson with four. Alex Trippi added three goals to go with a pair of assists for a game-high five points and Graham Bundy Jr. posted a hat trick as well. Declan McDermott added a pair of goals and two assists, Dylan Hess had a goal and an assist and Alex Mazzone, Cade MacLeod and Peter Thompson each had a lone goal. TJ Haley and Connor Morin both had a pair of assists as well. James Reilly continues to be solid at the X, winning 11 of 18 (.611) faceoffs to go with five ground balls. Georgetown's defense was once again impressive and didn't allow more than two goals in any quarter. The Blue & Gray was credited with 12 caused turnovers, led by Will Bowen and Mazzone with three each. In goal, Owen McElroy had 12 saves including six in the second quarter. Utah Notes Jordan Hyde led the Utes with three goals and Tyler Bradbury had two assists. Samuel Cambere had a pair of caused turnovers and two ground balls while Zack Johns collected 12 saves in his first start of the season. How it Happened A slow start to the game turned in favor of the Hoyas with three goals in a 1:25 span from McDermott, Watson and Trippi at the 8:57 mark to lead 3-0. Utah scored its lone goal of the frame with 2:16 remaining to pull within a pair. Georgetown scored first in the second at the 12:54 mark to lead 4-1 but scoring for both teams fell silent for the next 10 minutes before the Utes found the back of the net at the 2:58 mark. The Hoyas responded three-fold, scoring a trio of goals in the final two minutes of the half to take a 7-2 lead going into halftime. Coming out of the break, Georgetown scored five unanswered goals to lead 12-2, and after a pair of Utah scores, responded with back-to-back goals to close out the period and take a 14-4 advantage. Following a goal from Utah and back-to-back scores from Watson and Bundy, the Hoyas began to empty bench the final six minutes of the game en route to the 16-6 victory. Up Next Georgetown hits the road again to face Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m.
