First-year Will Murtagh scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team to an 8-7 comeback win over Endicott on Wednesday night at Whittier Field. The Polar Bears snap a two-game losing streak with the win and improve to 5-3 this season. Endicott falls to 2-6 with the setback. Game Highlights Defense dominated the day as the neither team could create separation throughout the contest and the squads combined for 52 turnovers on the night. The Gulls took an early two-goal edge thanks to early scores from A.J. MacDonald and Neal Parry, but Bowdoin trimmed the lead to 2-1 with a score from Jeff Powers at the end of one quarter. After Jack Sutherland boosted Endicott's lead back to two goals early in the second quarter, Bowdoin got a pair of goals from Jake Crossman and Jeff Powers just 58 seconds apart to deadlock the contest at 3-3. Endicott used a 3-1 surge in the final 8:20 of the opening half, including goals by Sutherland and face-off specialist Derek Yannone just 10 seconds apart, to regain the lead at intermission, 6-4. Murtagh scored the lone goal of the third quarter for Bowdoin, closing the gap to 6-5 entering the final period. Jake Crossman gave Bowdoin its first lead of the night, tying the contest with a goal at 3:26 and scoring the go-ahead goal with 2:27 on the clock. Sutherland replied for Endicott, taking a feed from John Koebel and putting the game into overtime with a score at 1:27. Both teams had chances to win it in overtime, but Bowdoin's A.J. Bravo forced a turnover on Endicott's second possession of OT and carried the ball downfield. The ball came to the wing for Murtagh, who cut across the Endicott defense and beat goaltender Patrick Dean for the game-winner with 1:12 left in the extra session. By The Numbers Jake Crossman and Jeff Powers had three goals apiece in the win for Bowdoin. Jack Sutherland had a hat trick for Endicott while John Koebel added a pair of assists. Defensively, Jack O'Connor made eight saves for Bowdoin while Ryan Monahan had four caused turnovers and six ground balls. For Endicott, Patrick Dean made nine saves and Cam Goodrich had three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Faceoffs were tied at 9-9 for the day and Bowdoin held a slim 32-30 edge in shots. Both teams went 0-2 with the extra man. The eight goals in the victory for Bowdoin were the lowest scoring output in a win for the Polar Bears since a 6-5 overtime victory against Wesleyan in 2013.
