Washington and Lee senior attackman Stuart Greenspon (Aldie, Va. / Episcopal) tallied a career-high seven points and the Generals' seniors finished with a 29-1 ODAC regular-season mark after producing a 21-9 victory over Randolph-Macon on Saturday at Wilson Field.
Greenspon scored the Generals' final goal of the contest with 8:18 remaining, which represented his 100th career point.
W&L (10-4, 9-1) jumped on the Yellow Jackets (5-7, 4-5) early, building a 6-1 lead in less than 10 minutes of game action. The Generals spread the wealth, with six different players finding the net.
After first-year attackman Jack Smith scored to pull R-MC within 6-2 heading into the second quarter, the Blue & White continued to extend the lead. W&L opened the period with seven straight goals to assume a commanding 13-2 lead with 3:32 left to play in the half. Senior attackman Austin Hudson (Baltimore, Md. / Gilman) scored twice during the run, and then snared a long pass by junior defenseman Michael Horgan (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Catholic) on the crease and deposited another tally with :01 remaining to give W&L a 14-3 lead at the break.
Randolph-Macon held its own in the third period, out-scoring the Generals 4-3 in the frame to cut it to a 17-7 game entering the fourth. However, W&L opened the final period with four straight goals to erase any comeback hopes. Greenspon scored twice during the stretch to produce his career-best total and 100th career point.
W&L held a 53-27 advantage in shots, a 39-26 edge in ground balls and a 23-9 advantage in faceoffs.
Greenspon led the way with five goals and two assists. Hudson finished with four goals, while senior attackman Taylor Witherell (Wilmington, Del. / Salesianum) posted three goals and one assist. Sophomore midfielders Henry Holliday (Washington, D.C. / St. Albans) and Matt Gallagher (Lynchburg, Va. / E.C. Glass) added two goals each, and first-year midfielder Leif Smith (Virginia Beach, Va. / Norfolk Academy) tallied a pair of assists. Senior Jack Taylor (Baltimore, Md. / Saint Paul's) played 53:46 in goal and produced 10 saves with seven goals allowed. Junior Nick Spagnoletti (Madison, N.J. / Madison) played the final 6:14, allowing two goals.
Junior midfielder Brandon Smith paced the Yellow Jackets with two goals and one assist. Three keepers played for R-MC, combining for 13 saves.
Washington and Lee will be either the No. 1 or No. 2 seed for the ODAC Tournament and will host a semifinal contest on Thursday. The opponent and time are still to be determined.
