FINAL SCORE: Mount St. Joseph 10, Earlham 8 LOCATION: Richmond, Indiana (Darrell Beane Stadium) RECORDS: Earlham 1-8 / Mount St. Joseph 3-4 RICHMOND, Indiana – A pair of late third quarter goals by visiting Mount St. Joseph University gave the Lions just enough of a margin to get past Earlham College, 10-8, in a non-conference men's lacrosse matchup on Saturday afternoon at Darrell Beane Stadium. The Quakers and Lions had played a see-saw game through much of the first two quarters. A three-goal run by Mount St. Joseph, stretching from the end of the second quarter into the early part of the third quarter, gave the Lions an 8-6 lead with 13:52 left in the third - the first two-goal lead of the game by either team. Earlham's Elijah Gamber reeled in the Lions a little with his unassisted strike at the 7:48 mark of the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 8-7 in MSJ's favor. Bryce Smith scored back-to-back goals for the Lions in the span of a minute and 37 seconds, extending the Mount St. Joseph lead to 10-7. Gamber struck again with 6:50 showing on the game clock, cutting the margin to 10-8, but a half-dozen Earlham shots failed to get past MSJ goalie Alexander Dudash, and the Lions escaped Darrell Beane with the win on the Quakers' senior day. The game had been deadlocked at 2-2 after the first quarter, as the two teams' traded goals back-and-forth. Avery Rush-Elias and Logan Reihing found the back of the Lions' goal for Earlham College, while Jesse Robinson and Smith notched scores for Mount St. Joseph. Reihing's EMO goal 21 seconds in the second quarter briefly put the Quakers in front, 3-2, but back-to-back MSJ goals from Smith and Nathaniel Bird left the Lions with a 4-3 lead with 11:39 showing on the second quarter clock. Earlham answered with consecutive goals from Kevin Ventura and Jason Slain to retake a 5-4 advantage, and Reihing added a second extra-man goal later in the frame. However late goals by Mount St. Joseph's Solomon Richards and Michael Addai allowed the Lions to take a 7-6 lead into the halftime break. Earlham narrowly outshot Mount St. Joseph, 30-27, and had a 37-33 advantage in ground balls. Quaker goalie Steven Shaughnessy finished the game with seven saves. Earlham men's lacrosse has a week off until they return to action when they travel to Hanover, Indiana, to face Hanover College on Saturday, April 17, at 4:00 p.m.
