After a one-year hiatus due to the global pandemic, the Vassar College men's lacrosse team was back in action, hosting No. 12 St. Lawrence University in the Liberty League opener for both teams. The Saints (2-0; 1-0 LL) came away with the 14-5 advantage over the Brewers (0-1; 0-1 LL). Seniors Jack Hennessey and Peter Koch combined for eight points to lead the Saints as Hennessey scored four goals, assisted on another, picked up two ground balls and caused one turnover for the Scarlet and Brown. Koch recorded a hat trick, while Mark Mahoney scored two goals and added an assist and Chris Jordan scored twice. Stew Hutchinson and Ben Hutchinson both finished with two points, one goal and one assist each. Brendan Brigham went 10-for-13 at the faceoff dot and led the Saints with six ground balls, while Patrick Gillis went 4-for-7, and Guthrie Little picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers. St. Lawrence built a quick 3-0 lead over the Brewers with goals from Hennessey, Koch and Stew Hutchinson, but the Brewers managed two goals before the end of the first quarter to bring the game within one as Michael Killion and Riley Olds each found the back of the net. It was all Saints in the second quarter, scoring six straight goals to build a 9-2 lead by halftime. Vassar opened the third frame with a man-up goal from Connor Deehan, but another run of four straight goals from the Saints increased their lead to 13-3. The Brewers and the Saints traded goals in the fourth quarter, but the Brewers were unable to mount a comeback. Five different members of the Brewers' squad each scored once with Maximus Albanese and Deehan each recording a goal and an assist. Dillion Dierman went 4-for-9 on faceoffs and Zack Henig picked up a team-best three ground balls. William Helm made six saves in goal for the Saints, while Aidan Gallagher made eight for the Brewers. St. Lawrence held a 43-32 advantage in shots and a 22-11 edge in shots on goal. Vassar was solid on the clear by a 14-19 margin, while the Saints were 8-10 clearing the ball.
