For the fourth time in program history, the No. 2 Tufts University men's lacrosse team tallied 26 goals, which ties a program record, on their way to downing No. 20 Ithaca College in nonconference action at Bello Field on Tuesday night. Junior Bryce Adam led the Jumbo offense with five goals and two assists. With the win, the Jumbos improve to 4-0 on the season. The Bombers will fall to 2-3. Tufts got an opening goal from junior Garrett Samuelson just 1:13 into the contest. They would add another, coming from sophomore Mac Bredahl just after the six minute mark. Ithaca's Connor Brumfield and Dillon Fitzpatrick would trade goals with Samuelson and junior Bryce Adam late in the first quarter. However, the Jumbos up the ante as Adam and senior Nick Shanks tallied last minute goals to give the Jumbos a 6-2 lead late in the first quarter. The Jumbos recorded fourteen straight goals that started in the first quarter, spanned the second quarter and entered the third quarter. Bredahl, freshman Kyle Adelmann, sophomore Cam Kelleher, junior Evan Cunningham, junior Max Waldbaum, junior Taggart Eymer, and senior Matt Treiber recorded goals in the second quarter which propelled the Brown and Blue to a 14-2 lead at halftime. For Adelmann, that is the first goal of his collegiate career. Adam, Bredahl, and Kelleher continued the run before Blake Eischen got the Bombers back on the board with 9:13 remaining in the third quarter. After just over five minutes of scoreless lacrosse, Adam tallied his fourth goal of the game with a man-up. Ithaca went on quick run of their own with three goals by Fitzpatrick and Brumfield which made the score 18-6 with just over a minute to go. As time was winding down, Adam added another goal to his tally with a pass coming from Bredahl and two seconds to go in the quarter. The game of runs continued as junior Jensen Corabi, freshman Sam Sturim, and sophomore Duke Alf extended the Jumbo lead to 22-6. Brumfield and senior Tristian Courtney traded goals before Brumfield found another. Senior Sean Trupo recorded his first goal in Brown and Blue to breakup an Ithaca run. Connor Till, Brumfield, and Ryan Ozsvath made the score 24-11 but the lead was too large and there was too little time to overcome the massive Jumbo second quarter. Courtney and Shanks added goals with under 90 seconds to play to tie the Jumbo program record for goals in a single game. Adam led the way for Tufts with five goals and two assists. Bredahl added three goals and three assists for six points while Kelleher chipped in with three goals. Eighteen different Jumbos recorded a point in the contest. The Jumbos, as a team, fired 100 shots, 58 of them were on goal. Brumfield led the Bomber offense with five goals. Fitzpatrick added three goals. Kyle Johnson had three helpers in the contest which tied a game-high. Junior Joe Theuer and senior Mason Pollack split time in the cage for Tufts. Theuer made four saves on six shots on goal, earning the win and improving to 1-0 on the season. Pollack made five saves on 14 shots on goal. Robby Atwood falls to 2-3 on the season after being peppered with 58 shots on goal. He stopped 32 of them in a full 60 minutes of action. The Jumbos return to action on Saturday when they head to Stevens for a nonconference matchup. The action is slated to start at 1pm. The Bombers will head to SUNY Oneonta next week for a nonconference meeting, starting at 4pm.
