The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team scored the game's final 17 goals on the way to a 24-4 win over Castleton University Tuesday afternoon at Wachenheim Field. The Thoroughbreds are 2-1, while the Spartans open at 0-1. Skidmore had 15 players contribute goals. Will Stricker led the way with three goals and two assists. Gregory Ross and Zach Skowronek had three goals each. Ross added five gorund balls and a caused turnover. Kyle Fink, Stephen Wafalosky, and Alex Miller had two goals and an assist each. Jason Shlonsky scored two goals. Nick Georgalas won nine of 15 face offs and had five ground balls. Christopher Mormile had four ground balls and a team-high three caused turnovers. For Castleton, Cameron Russell had two goals and three ground balls. The Spartans scored first on an Xavier McKenny tally at 13:24. Skidmore went up 2-1 on goals by Wafalosky (9:35) and Stricker (7:02). Jared Fontaine tied it at 2:09, but Wafalosky scored with :23 left in the quarter to give the Thoroughbreds a 3-2 edge after one. Skidmore built a 7-3 lead in the second quarter before Russell scored a man-up goal for Castleton at 9:13 to cut it to 7-4. That would be it for the Spartan offense. The Thoroughbreds scored the next 17 goals for the 24-4 win. Skidmore had a 69-21 shot and 56-26 ground ball advantage. The Thoroughbreds forced 35 Spartan turnovers. Benjamin Kacher had four saves over the first 45:00 for the win. Christopher Downey had four saves in 7:02 of relief in the fourth quarter. Edward Wright had one save in 5:19. Skidmore travels to Endicott College on Saturday for a 12 p.m. game.
