The No. 20-ranked Ohio State men's lacrosse team improved to 4-0 on the year, downing Jacksonville, 16-8, Saturday inside Woody Hayes Athletic Center. The Buckeyes trailed 1-0 after the first quarter and 2-0 early in the second before going on a seven-goal run to head into halftime ahead 7-2. The Buckeyes outscored the Dolphins 6-1 in the third quarter to extend the lead to 13-3. The teams combined for eight goals in the third for the 16-8 final. Buckeye senior Eric Fannell had a game-high six points on three goals and three assists, while junior Colin Chell had four goals and five points. In all, 11 Buckeyes had a point. The defense limited the Dolphins to 24 shots and Ohio State won 17-of-26 faceoffs. In the First Quarter ... The only goal of the first quarter was scored by the Dolphins' Blake Gatison at 4:28. Ohio State outshot Jacksonville, 11-9. Buckeye goalie Tom Carey had four saves and the JU goalie made three stops. In the Second Quarter ... The Dolphins scored a man-up goal just 18 seconds into the quarter for a 2-0 lead. The Buckeyes then went on a seven-goal run. Eric Fannell scored unassisted at 13:15 to tie the game. Colin Chell scored two goals on a nonreleasable penalty to tie the game and put the Buckeyes ahead (3-2). His first came at 12:40 and was assisted by Tre Leclaire, with the second set up by Fannell at 12:09. Johnny Pearson put a shot just inside the post for a 4-2 Buckeye lead at 11:15. Fannell found JT Blubaugh for a goal at 9:35. At 2:21 Chell completed his hat trick with another man-up goal, set up by Fannell. The final goal came on a shot by John Kelly that deflected in at 1:27. Ohio State had 16 shots in the quarter, limiting Jacksonville to just four. The JU goalie made three saves and Tom Carey had two stops for the Buckeyes. In the Third Quarter ... The Buckeyes allowed an early goal in the third quarter before a six-goal run. The run started with three goals in a 59 seconds span. Colin Chell opened the scoring before back-to-back goals from Eric Fannell in 28 seconds, with Chell assisting on the second goal, which came at 7:19. Johnny Pearson assisted on a man-up goal by Austin Shanks at 2:33 before Lukas Buckley scored twice in the final 1:37, including a goal with four seconds left in the quarter. Shots were 10-6 in favor of Ohio State in the quarter. Buckeye goalie Tom Carey had two saves, with the JU goalie making two stops. In the Fourth Quarter ... Jacksonville outscored the Buckeyes 5-3 in the fourth quarter for the 16-8 final. Trevor Hodgins and Nick Musci scored for Ohio State at 13:58 and 10:30, surrounding a goal from the Dolphins' at 12:40. Christian Feliziani had three wins and Carter Kistler won one. Ohio State had the edge in groundballs, 42-24. Withers had a team-high six, with freshman Jeff Henrick picking up five. Freddy Freibott and Tom Carey each had three groundballs.
