Coming off their biggest win of the season so far over No. 3 Seton Hill on Saturday. The fourth-ranked Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team showed no ill-effects from that game or heavy legs as they dominated the host Wheeling University from start to finish holding the Cardinals scoreless over the first 54:44 en route to a convincing 21-2 victory in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action on Monday afternoon. The Lakers got started early and often in an impressive eight-goal first quarter as Zach Lorenz finished off a feed from Ben Smith-Wilcox just 56-seconds in. After Shawn Doran won the ensuing faceoff it took six-seconds for the Green and Blue to make it 2-0 when Caleb Kueber netted his first of five. Bryce Johnson had his hand in the visitors next two tallies burying one past Dallin Isaacson and accompanied Kueber on his second. Devin Pipher and Kueber picked up a couple of unassisted markers, while Patrick Carrozzi and Kueber added the final two goals for the 8-0 lead. Cole Pellicano got the start in goal making one save on three shots faced in the first before being replaced by Jason Pawlak. Mercyhurst continued to pour it on to begin the second as Pipher found Carrozzi for the ninth of the game at the 1:53 mark. Three minutes later the Lakers struck two more times in the span of 66-seconds with Nathan Grenon bagging his first of the afternoon, before Kueber grabbed number five to make it 11-0. After Grenon and Smith-Wilcox pushed it out to 13-0 with 5:26 remaining some new names got onto the scoresheet with Timothy McMullen setting up Peyton Manko followed by Quinn Simonson adding the final tally of the half. Coming out of the break Brett Olney took over for Pawlak who did not have to make a save in the second. At the other end of the field Jared Butler hit Simonson for his second. Then, in a 30-second stretch Luke Ingianni and Colin Schmatz each buried the rock. Mercyhurst added two more in the frame to extend the margin to 20-0 through 45-minutes. In the fourth Simonson completed his hat trick thanks to a helper from Alexander Nicastro. Wheeling finally ended the combined shutout being pitched the Lakers goalkeeping staff at the 9:44 mark when Mike Andersson scored man-up beating Brendan Eyestone. Andersson added one more to complete the scoring at 21-2.
