Senior James Burr became the second Boston University men's lacrosse player to score 100 career goals on Saturday at No. 15/16 Ohio State, but the Terriers eventually fell to the Buckeyes, 17-10, at Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Burr finished the day with a career-high six goals, which matches the program record set by Jack Wilson ('18) on Feb. 28, 2015. Burr's first goal of the game was the 100th of his storied collegiate career, as he joined Wilson as the only Terriers to score 100 goals at BU. Sophomore Chris Gray recorded five points thanks to one goal and four assists. Freshmen Jake Cates and Timmy Ley each notched their first collegiate goals while classmate Jack Collins found the back of the net for the third time in two games. Senior Brendan Homire matched his career high with three assists. BU fell to 1-1 while Ohio State improved to 2-0. HOW IT HAPPENED After Ohio State opened the scoring early in the first quarter, Ley responded with his first collegiate goal off a feed from Gray. The Buckeyes then rattled off four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead with 9:42 left in the first quarter. Burr then hammered home his 100th goal after a pass from Nugent for his first assist as a Terrier with 9:16 to go. Ohio State extended its lead to 7-2 entering the second quarter before adding three more goals to take a 10-2 lead. BU got some momentum right at the end of the first half as Collins found the back of the net thanks to a Homire assist with just three second on the clock. After Ohio State opened the third-quarter scoring, Burr scored four straight goals to cut the Buckeye lead to 11-7 with 9:19 left in the frame. Gray, who assisted on Burr's first three markers on that run, then scored in transition to make it 12-8 before the Buckeyes added one more to regain a five-goal lead entering the final 15 minutes. OSU made it 14-8 with 10:42 remaining in regulation, but Burr's sixth followed by freshman Jake Cates' first collegiate goal cut the deficit to 14-10 with 7:22 to go. The Buckeyes then regained their five-goal edge with 5:59 on the clock before adding two more goals to create the 17-10 final. GAME NOTES In addition to his goal, Cates added three caused turnovers and one ground ball. Junior Chase Levesque forced three giveaways in addition to collecting a pair of ground balls and notching an assist. Junior Reece Eddy caused two turnovers and added three ground balls. Junior Jared Nugent recorded his first assist as a Terrier. The Terriers assisted on nine of their 10 goals. Sophomore Sean Christman won 10 faceoffs and recorded four ground balls. NEXT UP: DARTMOUTH The Terriers will host Dartmouth in their home opened on Saturday, Feb. 16, at Nickerson Field. Opening faceoff is set for 12 p.m.
