SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse opened their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) season today with a resounding 24-7 win over SUNY Cobleskill. Aidan Costello led the Broncos' attack with nine goals, along with five scores and two assists from Jack McClurg, as the defense held the Fighting Tigers to 19 shots with eight saves, while causing 21 turnovers. Delhi held a 6-1 lead after the first quarter, beginning with Logan Bauer's goal just over one minute in the game, while Costello accounted for three of the opening-period scores and McClurg with the remaining two. McClurg netted two of the Broncos' five second-quarter scores, along with goals from Costello, Bauer, and King White, as Delhi took an 11-3 lead into intermission. Goalie James Sullivan started in net, registering six saves before Dante Restaino took over in the second half, garnering a pair of saves. Cobleskill started the second half with two straights scores, but the Broncos defense tightened up to allow the offense to set some distance with nine unanswered goals over the third and fourth quarters. Brandon McGrath tallied six points on two goals and four assists, while Bauer finished with four points on two goals and two assists. Nick Dower tallied two goals and one assist, along with winning 15-of-22 faceoffs. Brett Fischer, Greg Junge, and Nicholas Iannucci each had one goal on the day. Fischer also tallied one assist, as did Sean Dalton, Nick Scarpa, Michael Tullo, and Raffaele Delellis. Delhi outshot Cobleskill, 66-19, and converted on 27-of-33 clear chances to the Fighting Tigers' 15-of-25. The Broncos came out with the ball on 19-of-35 faceoffs, aided by Dower's 15 wins, Scarpa's three, and another from Nolan Danielewski. Phil Riportella led with four caused turnovers. Head coach Sam Miller's team, now at 1-1 (1-0 NAC West), head to SUNY Poly next weekend for their next NAC challenge. The Wildcats were ranked first in the NAC West Preseason Poll, as the Broncos ranked third.
