The Temple lacrosse team (8-3, 4-2 AAC) completed a two-game sweep of the Cincinnati Bearcats (4-8, 0-6 AAC) with a 10-8 Sunday afternoon. With this win, Temple has won four straight conference road matches. The Owls remain perfect away from home this season, with a 5-0 record. Recapping the Game > Temple's Bridget Whitaker immediately picked up where she left off on Friday. The senior scored the first goal of the game on a free position shot, giving the Owls a lead they would never relinquish. > Six minutes later Temple scored the second goal of the match. Attacker Meghan Hoffman found Jackie Cericho in the perfect position to find the back of the net. > Cincinnati finally got on the board after nearly 19 scoreless minutes. Temple countered with a Hoffman goal assisted by Gabrielle Kirsch. > Hoffman's goal was the beginning of a 4-0 run to end the half. The Owls had four different goal scorers during this stretch. Temple carried a 6-1 lead into the halftime break. > The Bearcats came out of the half firing. Cincinnati scored two goals to cut the lead to three. > The Owls were quick to respond, with Lauren Zinkl, Mackenzie Roth, and Whitaker finding the back of the net to keep the margin at five (9-4) with 19:12 remaining. > UC threatened to make a run with a couple of scores, but Hoffman put to bed any chance of a comeback with a free position goal to stem the tide and extend the lead to 10-6. > The Bearcats had one more run left in the tank, but it was too little too late against the Owls' defense and strong keeper play from Senior Olivia Martin. Temple took the game 10-8. Statistically Speaking > Whitaker had one of the best all-around performances from any Temple player this year. She scored her fourth hat trick in five games and passed for two assists. The midfielder also picked up three ground balls and tied for the game-high with four caused turnovers. She also had the game-high in draw controls with five. > Hoffman scored two goals and had three assists. She now has 28 on the year and is seventh all-time in single-season assists. > Five other Temple players scored one goal. > Freshman Katie Shallow had a coming-out party for the Owls. The freshman set new career-highs in ground balls (six) and caused turnovers (four). Quotable > "I think this was just a huge weekend. We knew the importance of these two games, we knew that Cincinnati was going to be a tough team to do battle with, and we are continuing to find different ways to play. I think everyone is really excited we came away with two wins this weekend."-- head coach Bonnie Rosen Up Next > The Owls will be back in action Friday at 4 p.m., hosting ECU. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
