– The St. John Fisher men's lacrosse team remained perfect on its home turf on Saturday afternoon as the Cardinals defeated Elmira College by a score of 28-0. With the win Fisher improves to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference. As a team Fisher totaled 38 shots on goal throughout the game, while also winning 30 of the 31 total face offs in the matchup. The Cardinal offense got their goal scoring started early on often as the first period got underway, with Nicholas Miller putting away the game's first two goals, less than three minutes in. From there, Fisher would find the back of the net seven more times before the first period ended, as Dave Dobbins's team led the Soaring Eagles 10-0 after 15 minutes of play. Aside from Miller, the first period goal scorers included Jordan Depetres, Ian Evans, Alex Hunt, Tommy Farry, and Chance Gates. Much like the first period, Fisher would score 10 more goals in the second, in route to a 20-0 lead at the halftime break. The Cardinals to find the back of the net in the second period were Jack Mulvihill, Zach Wagner, Jacob Risavi, Brennan O'Brien, Evans, Farry, Miller, and Hunt. The Fisher defense stood tall in the opening half causing 15 turnovers, while the team converted nine of 10 first half clearing attempts. As the second half got underway Jake Riley scored his first goal of the season at the 11:50 mark. Riley's goal was followed by tallies from Risavi, O'Brien, and Wagner to close out the third period. The fourth period wrapped up much like the third as the Cardinals scored four times before the final horn sounded, to conclude their first shutout victory since the 2009 season. Final period goal scorers included Gabe VanOrder and Risavi. As a team Fisher would notch assists on 18 of the 28 goals, while 19 cardinals would tally at least one point in the conference win. Four goalkeepers saw time between the pipes throughout the game as Brandon Moore took home his second victory of the season, after seeing the first half action and finishing with one save. Joe Post finished a perfect 15-15 inside the face off circle and grabbed a game-high eight ground balls, while O'Brien and O'Donnell led the way defensively with two caused turnovers apiece. Fisher will return to action on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when they welcome SUNY Geneseo to Growney Stadium for a non-conference matchup.
