Visiting Marywood University score the game-winning goal with 2:18 left in the fourth quarter escaping with a 10-9 victory over host Wilkes University Tuesday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium. Wilkes fell to 1-2 overall following the loss while Marywood improved to 2-4 on the year after the win. Wilkes opened with a 2-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the game as Eric Ormsby (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) scored first then Luke Palladino (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) added a second thanks to assists from Ethan Weaver (Olney, MD/James Hubert Blake) and John Luna (San Diego, CA/Valley Center). Marywood responded with three straight goals and took its first lead of the game midway through the second quarter at 3-2. The Colonels answered right back with three unanswered strikes to take back the advantage leading 5-3 with 3:38 left until the half. Kyle Sokol (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) scored his second goal of the season thanks to Luna's second helper followed by back-to-back strikes by Alex Myers (Cortland, NY/Cortland). The Pacers responded scoring two goals over the final 2:10 tying the game at 5-5 at the break. The scoring rally continued for Marywood as the visitors score three goals to start the third frame taking an 8-5 lead with 2:59 left in the quarter. Nico Lorenzo (Howell, NJ/Howell) ended the Marywood scoring with an unassisted goal, his first of the season, to cut the deficit to 8-6 with just under a minute left in the third. Marywood scored one last time in the frame with :12 left to take back its three-point lead at 9-6 after three quarters of play. Luna got into the scoring column with his first goal of the contest off an assist from Palladino as Wilkes continued to trail 9-7 with 13:56 to go in the fourth quarter. The comeback continued when Myers finished off his hat trick on a goal with 12:08 on the clock to make it a one goal game. Lorenzo made the comeback complete when he scored his second goal of the game and the third straight strike to start the fourth for Wilkes as the game went tied at 9-9. From there Marywood found the back of the net with 2:18 left and a Wilkes penalty on the ensuing faceoff allowed the Pacers to waste a large amount of time. Wilkes was able to regain possession early after the game restarted as Jacob Kadis (Westminster, MD/Delone Catholic) earned a caused turnover giving the ball back to the Colonels with :32 left in the offensive zone. Luna had one last attempt at a shot but the ball was saved and the Pacers escaped with the non-conference victory. Luna and Myers led all Wilkes scorers with three points each. Cody Geidel (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) started in net making 12 saves while Daniel Cox (Stratford, CT/Stratford) played the fourth quarter finishing with two saves and the loss. Wilkes remains idle until next Wednesday (March 11th) when the Colonels continue their home stand with a matchup against Gordon College at 4:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
