No. 19 Franklin & Marshall pulled out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back in a 15-5 victory over No. 18 Washington & Lee on Saturday afternoon at Shadek Stadium. The Diplomats improved to 2-1 with the victory, while the Generals dropped to 1-3. F&M senior Kevin Mollihan scored his 202nd goal in the victory, which ties the Centennial Conference record for career goals. Mollihan now shares the record with McDaniel's Tom Brown, who set the record back in 2002. It took nearly ten minutes for F&M to find twine, but the floodgates opened soon after. The Diplomats took an early 3-0 advantage in the opening stanza, and poured in five more before the end of the half for an 8-0 edge. A late man-up goal from the Generals pulled one back for an 8-1 Diplomat lead at the half. F&M continued their hot stretch into the third quarter, scoring the first two goals of the frame. W&L answered with two of their own, pulling the Diplomat lead back to 10-3. Mollihan's record-tying goal with 1:18 remaining in the quarter pushed F&M back up eight. The two sides exchanged man-up goals to end the period with the Diplomats ahead 12-4. The Diplomats ended the fourth quarter on a 3-1 stretch to put things out of reach for the 15-5 victory. F&M's Blake Target led the way with four goals, followed by George LeBoeuf who tallied three goals on a team-leading nine shots, and Will DeMuth who ended with two goals. Six Diplomats finished with one goal. Erich Della Volpe finished with a team-high seven ground balls with two caused turnovers. Sage Garito picked up the victory for the Diplomats, allowing only one goal on eight shots and ended with seven saves in one half of action. Eric Mueller started the second half, allowing four goals with eight saves. The Generals were paced by Jack Ware, who tallied three goals on 11 shots. Franklin & Marshall held the edge in shots (39-35), ground balls (35-30), and caused turnovers (11-3). The Diplomats will take the week off before returning to action on the road against Messiah next Saturday, with a 5:00 p.m. faceoff.
