The St. John Fisher College celebrated its Senior Day on Saturday afternoon with a 25-12 conference victory over Hartwick at Growney Stadium. With its sixth straight win, Fisher improves to 12-1 overall and 5-0 in the Empire 8 on the season, while the Hawks fall to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference standings. The Cardinals celebrated the careers of eight seniors and their families prior to the opening faceoff as this year's senior class includes Chance Gates, Kyle Halladay, Alex Hunt, Danny Turck, Zach Wagner, Mitch Rein, Shane Rickard and Ryan Obrist. Both teams came into today's matchup with a perfect 4-0 conference record, however Fisher was able to dominate from the opening draw as the Cardinals posted 20 or more goals for the sixth time this season. After breaking the program's single-season goal record versus Utica on Wednesday evening, Nicholas Miller totaled nine points this afternoon with six goals and three assists as the sophomore now holds the single-season record for most points in a single season. The Ithaca native broke the record of 74 points set back in 2012 by Connor Henderson, with a goal at the 12:03 mark of the second period. Fisher opened up the game's goal scoring at the 11:48 mark of the opening period as Jordan Depetres took a feed from Miller to give the home side the early lead. Hartwick was able to tie the game back up at one apiece just 40 seconds later, however the Cardinals quickly answered with three-consecutive goals in a three-minute span. Putting Fisher up by three goals were tallies from Ian Evans, Austin Jobson, and Miller. From there, both teams traded goals before the first period concluded as Chance Gates scored his first of the game to give the Cardinals a 5-3 advantage at the end of the first 15 minutes. As the second period got underway, Fisher would start to pull away as the Cardinals would score the game's next nine goals, including eight alone in the second 15 minutes. Giving the Cardinals a 13-3 lead heading into the halftime break were goals from Miller, Wagner, Jack Mulvihill, Tucker O'Donnell, and Tommy Farry. Turck opened the scoring for Fisher in the second half at the 14:24 mark as the senior beat the Hawk goalkeeper off of a feed from Miller once again. Hartwick notched back-to-back goals for the first time in the conference matchup in the third period as the Hawks cut the Fisher lead to nine early on in the quarter. As the third period continued, the Cardinals would find the back of the net seven more times, while the Hawks would only score twice more during that span. The goal scorers in the third period would include Miller, Gates, Mulvihill, and Evans. Leading 21-7 heading into the final quarter, Fisher put four more shots into the back of the net in the final quarter, while the Hawks also put four more tallies on the scoreboard before time expired. Miller, Roger Panara, Brennan O'Brien all scored in the final period as Fisher remains perfect in Empire 8 play. Joe Post was unstoppable inside the faceoff circle as the sophomore finished 31-32 and also grabbed a season-high 27 ground balls. As a team, Fisher finished 35-40 on draws in the game, while also out-shooting the Hawks 43 to 22. Darin Eakins was credited with his 10th victory of the season in net as the junior saw all 60 minutes of action between the pipes and finished with 10 total saves. O'Brien led the way defensively with two caused turnovers, while Mulvihill grabbed another five ground balls. Fisher returns to the field next Saturday at 12 p.m. when it travels to Hoboken, N.J. for a conference matchup with Stevens, which will decide first-place in the Empire 8 Conference standings.
