Hitting the back of the net a season-high 19 times, the Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse squad downed LIU, 19-11, in the semifinals of the 2021 Northeast Conference Championships on Sweeney Field on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Hawks (9-3) extend their winning streak to nine games and will advance to Saturday's title game, to be played on Sweeney Field against third-seeded Bryant at 1:00 p.m.
16 of SJU's 19 total goals and 12 of SJU's 15 total assists came out of SJU's starting attack and midfield units. Senior midfielder Evan Campbell dropped a game-high seven points on one goal and six assists while senior attackman Matt Tufano (3g, 3a) and junior attackman Ryan Doran (3g, 3a) added six-point performances and sophomore attackman Matt Bohmer (3g), junior midfielder Levi Anderson (3g), and junior midfielder Tucker Brown (3g) all added hat tricks.
Junior face-off specialist Zach Cole went 23-of-32 from the X with a season-high 14 ground balls. His first ground ball of the game, off of the opening face-off, was Cole's 297th career ground ball, which broke SJU's all-time record for career ground balls. Cole now owns 310 career ground balls to become the first Hawk in program history to surpass the 300 mark.
