HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College men's lacrosse team trounced Roger Williams University on Wednesday night to collect their first home win of the season. Trinity juniors Andrew Fearey (Duxbury, Mass.) and Cullen Wolff (Maplewood, N.J.) tallied five points apiece to lead the Bantams to a 21-5 finish over the Hawks. The Bantams moved to 2-1 wit their second win in a row and will host New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponent Middlebury College on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Bantams jumped out to the lead just 37 seconds into the contest when Fearey found William Puccio (Garden City, N.Y.) for the first goal of the game. Trinity continued its pressure, jumping out to a 4-0 lead with goals from Jake Baker (South Londonderry, Vt.), Connor McCulloch (Alexandria, Va.), and Wolff. The Hawks answered with a three-goal run of their own, cutting the deficit to one at 4-3. Entering the second quarter, senior midfielder Luke Valentino (Little Silver, N.J.) took matters into his own hands, tallying two goals and an assist in 1:08 to make it a 7-3 Trinity lead. The Bantams continued to pour on the goals in the second quarter. At the 3:12 mark, Wolf sliced and diced from the X position to net an unassisted goal. On a face-off, sophomore Dane Crowley (Pelham, N.Y.) won the draw and took the ball right to the cage for his first goal of the season. With the clock winding down in the first half, senior Jack Cahill (Medfield Mass.) found the back of the net with 44 seconds remaining, and the Bantams took a 12-3 lead heading into halftime. The third quarter of play saw no relief for Roger Williams with the Bantams registering seven unanswered goals. Senior captain Graham Penfield (Strafford, Vt) set the tone early with a caused turnover and physical clear that resulted in a Bantam goal. Fearey scored twice more in the quarter before long stick John Cowdrick (Lexington, Mass.) fed Cahill for his second goal. The Bantams tallied three more goals in the remaining eight minutes of play with Puccio, McCulloch, and Matt Pecora (Congers, N.Y.) each finding the back of the net. Roger Williams scored the first goal of the fourth quarter before Bantam senior Chris Larsen (Rocky River, Ohio) went coast-to-coast for his first of the season. The Bantams added two more before Roger Williams netted the final goal of the game. The Bantams dominated the Hawks in face-offs, winning 22 of 29, shots, 52-18, and ground balls, 39-21.
