The Piedmont men's lacrosse team saw its USA South title defense end in a 17-13 loss at Pfeiffer on Saturday afternoon in the USA South Tournament Championship game. The Falcons jumped ahead in the early going and led most of the way in capturing their first ever USA South Men's Lacrosse Title. In the final game of his Piedmont career, senior attackman BRADY JENKS led the team with four goals while younger brother AVERY JENKS added two along with senior CHASE GOFF. Pfeiffer's Corey Choberka delivered a game-high four goals while John Allen, Quinn Becraft and Treven King added three apiece. The teams were even with 44 shots each. However, the Falcons put 32 on goal compared to Piedmont's 22. The Falcons started the scoring, as they found the back of the net just over three minutes into the contest before Choberka's first of the day made it 2-0 with 9:26 left in the first quarter. The Lions answered back to crack the scoreboard just 20 seconds later on AVERY JENKS' first of the game while Goff then knotted the score at 2-2 minutes later. The game went back-and-forth before Piedmont scored three straight to take its first and only lead of the game at 6-5 with 10:16 left in the first half. From there, it was four consecutive goals from Pfeiffer to take a three-goal lead and the Falcons led the rest of the way. Three of the four goals in Pfeiffer's scoring run were from Choberka. After the Lions cut their deficit to 12-10 on a goal from CONNOR ROGERS with 4:32 left in the third quarter, Pfeiffer put the game away with a 3-0 run late in the third and early in the fourth to build an insurmountable advantage. Facing 44 shots, senior goalie ZACH CZULADA made 15 saves while faceoff specialist CHRIS PANNENBACKER paced the team with four ground balls. Pfeiffer scored three man-up goals on 10 opportunities while Piedmont had just two chances with a man advantage for the contest. Piedmont's loss snaps the team's six-game win streak. Before Saturday, the Lions had not lost since March 14.
