For the sixth time in program history, the No.6 Tufts University men's lacrosse team posted 25 goals on their way to a 25-6 win over Springfield College in nonconference action at Bello Field on Tuesday night. Sophomore Mac Bredahl led all players with seven points (3g, 4a). The Jumbos improve to 2-0 on the season while the Pride fall to 0-3. Sophomore Cam Kelleher got the scoring started with 10:05 remaining in the opening period. All three starting attack in sophomore Mac Bredahl, junior Bryce Adam, and senior Nick Shanks recorded goals in the first quarter as the Jumbos led 5-0 after one. Tufts posted 10 goals in the second quarter as senior Matt Treiber, junior Garrett Samuelson, sophomore Duke Alf recorded the first three goals of the quarter, all within the opening three minutes which gave the hosts an 8-0 lead. Bredahl, Adam, and Shanks found the next three goals before freshman Jack Boyden found his first career goal and point with 3:45 remaining in the opening half. Tufts tacked on three more goals in the final 2:08 of the half with goals being registered to Adam, Samuelson, and Shanks. Boyden earned his first career assist on Kelleher's up goal to start the third quarter before junior Evan Cunningham found his first goal of the season. The Jumbos recorded back-to-back down goals as Boyden and senior Darian Matini found the back of the cage just 13 seconds apart which gave the Brown and Blue a 19-0 lead. Freshman Kurt Bruun earned his first career point and goal to give Tufts a 20-0 lead with 8:05 remaining in the quarter. Springfield's Zac Schuette got the Pride on the board with under three minutes to go in the third quarter. Sophomore Cole Salton joined the score sheet with a goal and Matini found the third man-down goal on night, all in the final two minutes. Freshmen Tommy Swank and Henry Scherb found their first career goals in the final quarter and sophomore Jack Pimental found his first goal on the season. Springfield's Chris Santa Barbara, Kyle Murakami, Joe Hawley, and Alek Turi all found goals in the final quarter to make the contest 25-6. Bredahl led the way for Tufts with three goals and four assists. Shanks and Adam had three goals and two assists each to help pace the offense. Seventeen different Jumbos recorded a point in the contest. The Pride were led by Schuette who had one goal and two assists. Hawley posted two goals for Springfield. Senior Mason Pollack made five saves on five shots on goal in the win. He pitched a shutout in the first half of action. Junior Joe Theuer, sophomore Walker West, and freshmen Cody Wiebe and Shane Molloy split time in the second half in the cage for Tufts. Pollack improves to 2-0 on the season. Dan Biesty falls to 0-3 on the season after making 10 saves on 29 shots on goal. He was relieved midway through the third quarter as Ryan Weck came on to make three saves on nine shots on goal in the just under 24 minutes of work. The Jumbos were 1-1 in man-up situations while the Pride were 1-4. Tufts won 23 of 35 faceoffs in the contest. Tufts returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they host No.2 Amherst College in a rematch of the 2019 NCAA Quarterfinals. They are slated to start at 1pm. The Pride will host No.11 Union College on Saturday with a 1pm start time.
