The Castleton University men's lacrosse team dropped a conference contest to Little East powerhouse Keene State on Tuesday evening, falling by a final score of 17-6 at Dave Wolk Stadium. The Spartans fall to 4-8 with the loss, including a 2-3 mark in LEC play, while Keene State improves to 5-0 against league opponents at 6-5 overall. The Owls controlled play from the outset, holding a 51-26 edge in shots, 43-27 edge in ground balls and turned it over 21 times to Castleton's 27. The Owls also won 20-of-26 face-offs, while converting on 19-of-25 clears. Castleton was 20-of-32 on clear attempts. Jason Sedell and Cameron Russell scored twice each, while Kyle Lutinski added a goal and an assist. Adnane Adossama notched his first goal of the season on the night, while Colin Clark contributed two assists for the Spartans. Luc Issa led the way with five ground balls, while the defensive duo of Andrew McCarthy and Jason Venezia combined to cause five turnovers. Brandon Myron stopped 13 shots in the contest for the Spartans in taking the loss. Joe Nutting racked up five goals for the Owls, while Shane Molloy had two goals and two assists for a four-point night. Anthony Marcella and Dave Wiedenfeld had two goals and an assist apiece, and Bobby Carey had a goal and an assist. Matthew Lemke won 14 face-offs and collected seven ground balls for the Owls, while three players caused a pair of turnovers each. Chase Chamberlin earned the win, stopping six shots while allowing five goals in 54 minutes of action. After Castleton held the Owls off the board for the opening eight-plus minutes, Keene State broke into the score column with 6:46 to play in the opening quarter. Molloy scored the first of five Owl goals before the end of the frame as five different players notched scores in the period. Keene State pushed its lead to 7-0 in the second quarter, before Sedell got Castleton on the board with just five minutes to play before halftime on a man-up chance. The Owls scored three more times before the break, however, sending the contest into halftime with the visitors on top, 10-1. Lutinski scored just 32 seconds into the second half to make it 10-2, but the Owls answered with a trio of scores to make it 13-2 just minutes later. Russell got the Spartans on the board with another man-up for Castleton, but Keene State closed out the quarter with two more scores as it led 15-3 heading to the final frame. Adossama netted his first goal of the campaign one minute into the fourth quarter, before Sedell scored another man-up goal to make it 15-5. A pair of Owl goals pushed the gap to 17-5, before Russell capped the scoring with 1:32 to play to give the game its final score of 17-6. Castleton returns to action on Saturday with a Little East Conference matchup against Western Connecticut State at Dave Wolk Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
