The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team defeated the Saints of Marymount University, 8-5, in a non-conference affair on Wednesday afternoon to earn its fourth victory in the last five games. Senior Dylan Brasch started the scoring for the Aggies just 10 seconds into the first quarter after Matt Weibel took the ground ball from the opening faceoff and dished it to Brasch who put it passed the goalie from seven yards out. Five minutes later Marymount answered as Hunter Ralston put one in the back of the net to tie the game. The Aggies scored the next two goals as Brasch netted his second of the day with 6:26 left in the period. Less than 40 seconds later, junior Brandon Keller put one in to extend the lead to 3-1. Both teams added one more tally in the final five minutes of play to make it a 4-2 game going into the second. After a scoreless second period, senior PJ Rafferty opened the second half scoring with his second of the day to extend the lead to 5-2. The Saints netted the next two before Rafferty found the back of the net again with a helper from Brasch with 3:22 left in the stanza. Shortly after, Ralston scored his third of the day for the Saints to cut the lead back to one, 6-5. The Aggies took advantage of a man up-opportunity with a little over three minutes gone by in the fourth when Rafferty put in his fourth goal of the day. The defense, led by keeper Nic Brown, shut the doors in the final period and kept Marymount off the board in the fourth quarter, and Ben Napieralski finished the scoring for the day when he found the back of the net with 7:54 left to play to push the lead to three. Nic Brown played all 60 minutes in goal and was strong all day with 20 saves. Brasch and Rafferty led Del Val with four points each on the day, Matt Weibel had two points with two assists. Defensively, Bryan Thompson picked up nine ground balls and won 16-of-17 faceoffs. Hunter Ralston led Marymount with three goals on eight shot attempts and goalie Anthony Olivo suffered the loss with eight goals against and 16 saves. The Aggies next game will be at home Saturday March 14, as they take on Goucher College at 1 pm.
