Lynchburg had a six-goal run starting in the third quarter that erased a 6-3 deficit and propelled the Hornets to an 11-8 win over Franklin & Marshall in men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. F&M fell to 0-1, while Lynchburg improved to 1-1.
F&M controlled the game early and broke a 1-1 first quarter tie with three straight to open the second. Luke Keating had F&M's first tally in the first quarter and Blake Target struck twice early in the second, before Ellis Llewellyn found the net at 10:21 in the second to put F&M out front 4-1. The Horner countered with two straight to close out the half to come within a goal, 4-3, at the break.
Keating made it 5-3 when he buried a pass from Tucker McBride and Target finished off a pass from Keating at 10:08 to put F&M up 6-3. The Hornets answered with six straight and kept the Diplomats off the board for almost a quarter.
George Briggs stopped the run with a goal at 10:21 in the fourth to bring F&M within two, 9-7, but Lynchburg answered with a pair for an 11-7 edge with 6:06 left to play. McBride struck at 3:23, but F&M was unable to put together a productive possession the remainder of the game.
Luke Keating ended with two goals and two assists, Blake Target tallied three scores and Tucker McBride ended with a goal and an assist. A.J. Rigsby ended with an assist, while George Briggs and Ellis Llewellyn both tallied once.
Tommy O'Connor had a game-high four caused turnovers to along with three ground balls and Noah Isaacson ended with three caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Scott Hatch took the loss and fell to 0-1 with six saves on the day, with Patrick Cornelius picking up the win with 11 stops to improve to 1-1.
F&M returns to action on Wednesday when the Diplomats host Lebanon Valley at 4:00 p.m.
