. - The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team defeated Misericordia University by a score of 17-7 on Thursday at Philip Jones Field in the first of its two spring break games in Florida. The Cardinals, ranked 13th in the USILA Men's Coaches Division III Poll, moved to 2-1 on the season while the Cougars took their first loss of the year. Sophomore Jordan Depetres scored a career-high five goals while adding one assist in the game. Nicholas Miller also had a six-point day with four scores and two helpers. Fisher was chomping at the bit with not having a game in over a week. Miller buried a man-up goal 95 seconds into the game to get the Cardinals on the scoreboard and the team kept up the onslaught with two more scores in the first five minutes. Ian Evans sent a pass to Jacob Gallina and the freshman hit the back of the net for his first collegiate goal. Evans then tallied his own score to put Fisher up 5-0. During all of this, the Cougars never had possession until more than halfway into the quarter. After Misericordia earned its first goal, Depetres and Gallina responded with tallies to make it 7-1. Defender/Long Stick Midfielder Roger Panara later started a four-goal run that was capped off with a score by Daniel Harris that gave the Cardinals an 11-2 advantage. Depetres scored the final goal of the half to make it 13-4 as Fisher stopped a chance by the Cougars in the final seconds before halftime. The Cardinals kept the momentum going to kick off the second half as Jack Mulvihill set up Miller for the goal. Following Misericoridia cutting the deficit to eight, Depetres hit his new career-high for goals in a game with Jack Hyde earning the assist to finish out the third quarter scoring. In the fourth, sophomore Kyle Rochester ran down the field and beat the Cougars net minder from far out for his first career goal. The final score of the game was Ethan Gentile's first career tally as Jake Riley set up the Syracuse native in front of the net. Fisher out shot its opponent 43-22 and picked up 39 ground balls to the Cougars' 19. The Cardinals also went 95 percent on their clear attempts. At the faceoff x, Joe Post went 19-of-23 while scooping up 17 ground balls. This season, the junior currently holds an 83.75 faceoff win percentage. Evans had a game-high three assists while grabbing three ground balls. Both Miller and Cole Fowler each tallied two caused turnovers. In net, Darin Eakins made 10 saves to earn the win. Brandon Moore then replaced Eakins with nine seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter. Fisher will play Clark University in Clearwater on Saturday at 1 p.m.
