Ben Murtagh scored three goals to lead the No. 15 St. Lawrence men's lacrosse team to a 9-7 win over SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon at North Country Field at Hall-Leet Stadium. Mike Donnelly scored two goals and added two assists, while Brian Cunningham also scored two goals with one assist, picking up three ground balls. Peter Koch and Jack Hennessey also added one goal apiece. The Saints, who improved to 3-0 on the season, handed Geneseo (3-1) their first loss of the year. "It was another game between two teams that battled hard for every inch of the field," said St. Lawrence head coach Mike Mahoney '93. "Geneseo is a good and very well-coached team. I thought we were solid defensively and our offense made some great plays down the stretch to provide the difference." The first half was a back and forth game between the two teams. The first two-goal lead was by Geneseo as they lead 5-3 with 6:03 left to play in the first half. However, two late scores by Donnelly and Hennessey brought to the Saints to a 5-5 tie as they headed into the half. During the second half, St. Lawrence was able to pick up the momentum going on a 4-2 scoring run with three of their four goals coming in the third quarter. Defensively it was a busy day for senior goalie Alex Terry has he recorded a season-high 11 saves while only allowing seven goals against a Geneseo team that averaged 14 goals per game entering the contest. Geneseo's Kevin Cook lead both teams with four goals and two assists, and Tyler Wetzel had a season-high 14 saves. The Saints' will open the Liberty League schedule against No. 5 RIT in their first game of the Mustang Classic at Stevenson University on Friday, March 13th at 4 p.m.
