The No. 4 RIT (6-1) men's lacrosse team handed St. John Fisher College (6-1) its first loss of the season with a 13-5 win in non-conference action from RIT's Turf Field Wednesday evening. Shots were 45-31 in favor of RIT. The Tigers won the ground ball battle 56-27, and won 14-of-21 face-offs. Cam Isaac (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and Ryan Tandy (Montrose, NY/Hendrick-Hudson) each tallied five points for the Tigers. Isaac finished with four goals, while Tandy scored three goals and added two assists. Ryan Barnable (Whitby, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) chipped in a goal and two assists. Walker Hare (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) got the win in net, making 16 saves. Landon Nolta (Highlands Ranch, CO/Mountain Vista) and Nick Montemorano (Victor, NY/Victor) each won seven face-offs, and Matt Pogue (Mississauga, Ontario/St. Paul Secondary) grabbed a career-high eight ground balls. Tandy, Trevor Smyth (Orangeville, Ontario/The Kiski School) and Alex Maruna (Medina, OH/St. Ignatius) each caused three turnovers. Ian Evans and Nicholas Miller each scored two goals for St. John Fisher, while Jack Mulvihill dished out a pair of assists. Darin Eakins took the loss in net for the Cardinals, despite making 20 saves. RIT led 5-1 after the first quarter, and 9-3 at halftime. The Tigers tacked on two more goals each in the third and fourth quarters, while holding the Cardinals to two goals in the second half. Isaac, Damon Currie and Nally each scored to give the Tigers and early 3-0 lead. After an Evans goal cut the Tigers lead to 3-1, Isaac tallied two more goals to end the quarter, including one with seven seconds to play to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead. Tandy scored the first two goals of the second quarter, giving the Tigers a 7-1 lead on seventh goal of the season off an assist from Barnable at the 9:02 mark fo the second quarter. Tandy scored three goals in the quarter, including one with 0.8 seconds remaining before the buzzer sounded that gave RIT a 9-3 halftime lead. Smyth and Isaac scored the only two goals of the third quarter that increased the RIT lead to 11-3. Nally and Barnable tacked on goals in the fourth quarter, while Nicholas Miller tallied a pair of goals for the Cardinals to make it a 13-5 final. RIT returns to action on Saturday, March 23 when the Tigers host Liberty League foe, Vassar College at 1 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field.
