St. Mary's College of Maryland (1-1) dropped a hard-fought contest to No. 10 Dickinson College (1-0) by a final score of 13-10 on Saturday (Feb. 16) afternoon. Dickinson outscored St. Mary's College 6-3 in the final quarter to capture the victory. The game was played at Tierney Field at the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame. St. Mary's - 10, No. 10 Dickinson - 13 How It Happened The first quarter was a defensive battle with both squads finding the back of the cage just once. The Seahawks struck first at the 6:14 mark off a Max Groen goal that was assisted by Jeremiah Clemmer on an extra man opportunity. Dickinson tied the game at one with 4:57 remaining in the first quarter. Jude Brown scored his first of four goals just one minute into the second quarter to capture a 2-1 lead for the Seahawks. Dickinson responded with a goal of their own two minutes later, but Brown put the Seahawks back out in front with his second goal of the game at the 10:58 mark of the stanza. However, the Red Devils finished the half strong with back-to-back goals to take a slim 4-3 lead into half. Erich Wuesthoff tallied his lone goal of the game to start the second half and knotted the score at 4-4. Dickinson answered with a three goal run and held a 7-4 lead with 9:47 remaining in the quarter. Trailing by three, the Seahawks strung together a run of their own, recording three straight goals to tie the game at seven heading into the fourth quarter. Dominic Venanzi, Abe Hubbard, and Brown accounted for the Seahawks' three goals to cap the third quarter. Dickinson broke out offensively to begin the fourth quarter with five unanswered goals. St. Mary's College attempted to make a comeback by netting back-to-back scores with under seven minutes to play, but Dickinson put a halt to the momentum the Seahawks were building with a score at the 3:58 mark of the quarter. Next, Venanzi tallied his third goal of the game with nine seconds left in regulation, but time ran out on the Seahawks. Inside the Box Score Brown led the Seahawks with four goals on the day and is now tied with Wuesthoff with a team-best five goals on the season. Venanzi followed Brown with three goals on the afternoon. Additionally, the Seahawks received offensive production from Groen, who recorded one goal and two assists. Luke McWright and Tommy Rinder led the team in groundballs, hustling for five each. In addition, McWright and Cristian Quiroa caused a team-high two turnovers. In between the pipes, Ross Snodderly collected a career-best 21 saves. The Seahawks managed to push the Red Devils to the brink despite losing 19 of 26 faceoffs.
