The Springfield College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Stevens, 16-8, on Saturday afternoon at the DeBaun Athletic Complex in non-conference play. The host Ducks broke open an 8-5 halftime lead with five goals in the third quarter en route to the win as they improved to 3-1, while the Pride slipped to 0-2. Kevin Tierney (Glastonbury, Conn.) had the best game of his young career, totaling three goals out of the midfield, while Zac Schuette (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) and Patrick Watson (Franklin, Mass.) each registered a goal and an assist. Dan Biesty (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) made 12 saves and Joe Cameron (Stoneham, Mass.) picked up 10 ground balls after winning 14-of-27 from the face-off x. For the game, Stevens held a 43-27 edge in shots as the Pride committed 20 turnovers in the setback. The Pride held a 38-35 edge in shots for the game and forced Nazareth in 20 turnovers. Springfield won 11 of the game's 27 faceoffs, but Nazareth owned a 40-23 edge in ground balls. Springfield scored the game's first goal at the 13:36 mark as a fantastic outlet by Tommy Briscoe (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) found Tommy Nash (Massapequa, N.Y.) for a transition goal. However, Ryan Caplis would net three-straight unassisted goals to close out the quarter and give the hosts a 3-1 edge after 15 minutes of play. Tierney finished a feed from Schuette just 36 seconds into the second quarter to make it a one-goal game. The teams would trade goals, including a man-up marker by Alek Turi (Glastonbury, Conn.) at 11:10, only to have Stevens pump in three goals in 2:29 to push their advantage to 7-3. Watson and Tierney would later net unassisted goals for the Pride to pull the visitors within 7-5 and Stevens would later head into the break with an 8-5 lead. In the third, Stevens held a 16-5 advantage in shots and scored the only five goals of the quarter en route to a 13-5 lead heading into the fourth. Each team scored three times in the fourth, with the Pride's goals coming from Tierney, Watson, and Kyle Murakami (South Burlington, Vt.). On Tuesday, Springfield will stay in the state of Massachusetts for a non-conference battle with Tufts, who was ranked No. 6 in the country in this week's USILA National Poll. Face-off is slated for 7 pm. For the latest on Springfield College Athletics, follow the Pride on social media on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
