The No. 15 University of Pennsylvania women's lacrosse team won its first Ivy League game of 2018, stifling No. 18 Cornell in Ithaca, 11-4. The Quakers (4-0, 1-0 Ivy) avenged their only Ivy regular season loss from last season in the win over the Big Red (1-2, 0-1 Ivy), jumping out to a 6-1 lead and then using a huge game from Mikaila Cheeseman in goal to deny Cornell any chance at a comeback. In her first career start, Cheeseman made 10 saves – including seven in the first half – to pick up her second win of the season. Notes To Know The Quakers are 4-0 to start a season for the first time since 2015 – Penn started that season 6-0. Gabby Rosenzweig scored three times in the first half, giving her a hat trick in three of Penn's four games this season. She has scored 29 goals over her last 10 games dating back to last season, averaging 2.9-per-game over that span. Rosenzweig has 61 points in 21 career games, also a 2.9 average. Zoe Belodeau followed up her six-point, 11-draw control game on Wednesday with a hat trick and four draw controls in her first Ivy League game. Erin Barry scored twice, giving her two goals in each of her last three games. Natalie Stefan tied her career high with three caused turnovers, adding a game-high five ground balls. Emily Rogers-Healion moved into No. 15 all-time at Penn in career scoring in the game. Her two goals and one assist give her 119 career points. Mikaila Cheeseman set a career high with 10 saves to record her first Ivy League win. She made 17 saves over her last three halves of work while allowing just seven goals. Four goals allowed to Cornell are the fewest by a Penn team since allowing two in a 14-2 win in 2009 – a span of 11 games. The last time Penn conceded four or fewer goals in Ithaca was in 1989 – Penn won a 4-3 defensive battle that year. How It Happened On a typically cold day in Ithaca, Penn's attack was on fire early to the tune of a 6-1 lead in the first half. Rosenzweig opened the scoring with a nice individual effort via a cage roll to her right just 2:34 into the game. After Cornell tied the game at 1-1 5:41 into the game, the Quakers would score the next five to take a commanding 6-1 lead with 3:02 left in the first half. Emily Rogers-Healion scored twice in that span, joined by Rosenzweig who scored twice to complete her hat trick as well as Alex Condon and Erin Barry. Rosenzweig also had an assist during that run, a pass right to goal which Condon caught and finagled through two defenders into the cage to give Penn a 3-1 lead 12:44 into the game. Moments later, Rosenzweig would be the beneficiary of a nice assist, taking a Barry pass right at the post and stuffing home Penn's fourth of the game. Rogers-Healion would factor into Penn's next two goals, calling her own number from the top of the attacking area with a stutter-step drive to give Penn a 5-1 lead. For the next goal, ERH tossed a cross-zone pass to Barry at the far post. Barry was all alone and easily scored Penn's sixth goal. Rosenzweig would complete her hat trick with 1:14 left in the first half to send Penn to break ahead, 7-2. In the second half, Zoe Belodeau got herself acclimated to Ivy play with three of Penn's four goals – including a nice individual effort from behind the cage after scrambling to a loose ball to keep possession favoring Penn. Her third goal – Penn's final of the game – was a beautiful give-and-go with Rosenzweig with 14:00 remaining.
