Hartford, Conn. – Senior attackman Ben Knaus (Ross, Calif.) had three goals and three assists to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 20-3 victory over the visiting University of Massachusetts-Boston Beacons in men’s lacrosse action this evening at Jessee/Miller Field. Trinity improves to 4-2 with its second win in three days, while the Beacons drop to 1-5 with their third loss in a row. The Bantams will visit No. 3-ranked Tufts in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tilt on Saturday at 1 p.m., and the Beacons visit Keene State the same day at the same time. Trinity led, 8-0, after the first quarter in a dominant performance, outshooting the Beacons, 68-17, winning 21 of 27 faceoffs, scooping 51 ground balls to 23 for the Beacons, and forcing 28 turnovers including 11 on clear attempts. Bantam first-year attacker Connor McCulloch (Alexandria, Va.) and sophomore attacker Drew Kozub (Hopkinton, Mass.) joined Knaus with hat tricks, while McCulloch also had a pair of assists, and Kozub had one assist. Bantam rookie John Stookey (Middletown, R.I.) notched two goals and two assists, while classmates Mackenzie Deane (New Canaan, Conn.) and Reid McDonald (Aldie, Va.) also scored twice. Three different Beacons scored goals. Trinity led, 14-1, at halftime and outscored Mass.-Boston, 6-2, in the last 30 minutes. Bantam sophomore Liam Fitzgerald (Skillman, N.J.) won 14 of 16 faceoffs with a game-high six ground balls, while junior midfielder Andrew Collins (Brookfield, Conn.) collected a goal, an assist, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Senior Greg Barletta (Canton, Mass.) earned his first career victory in the Trinity goal with three saves in 45 minutes. Mass.-Boston senior goalkeeper Cameron Dixson (Wayland, Mass.) finished with 18 saves and paced the visitors with four ground balls.
