Down by three goals with under eleven minutes to go in the second quarter, junior Kevin Stump would jump-start the Eph offense which transition from Williams tying up the score to the Ephs taking the lead before halftime. For the remainder of the game, Williams would maintain this lead which would hand them their second hard-fought win of the season. The Williams College Ephs (2-1/ 1-1 NESCAC) defeated the Union College Dutchmen (4-1) 12-11 in today's match-up at Farley-Lamb Field on the campus of Williams College. The Union College Dutchmen took control of the game early on, translating to the first goal of the game scored by Hayden Frey, assisted by John Edmonds at 10:27 off of a dodge from behind the goal. Six minutes later, Union scored a second straight goal by Dutchman Kieran McGovern after he ripped a shot from 10 yards out. With just more than a minute left in the quarter, the Ephs found their first goal of the game after a great display of ball movement from the Williams attack. Jake Haase slam-dunked the ball into the net to bring the game to 2-1 with the Dutchmen up. Union came out with a bang early in the start of the second quarter with great possession on offense. At ­­­13:13, Hayden Frey netted a goal for the Dutchmen off of an unassisted crease-crank. Union soon scored another goal less than a minute later by Jimmy Connelly off of a rip from fifteen yards out to bring the score to 4-1 with the Dutchmen up. Williams answered back with a three-score streak led by Cory Lund after a great pass from Kevin Stump. Less than a minute later, Kevin Stump would be fed with the ball for his opportunity to score to bring the Eph deficit to 1 goal. At 7:11, Eph Cory Lund tied the score up at 4-4 after a slam-dunk for his second goal of the evening. The Dutchmen soon countered with a goal off a scramble at 3:46 by a score from Michael Sans. The score at halftime was Union 5 – Williams 4. The Ephs took the field in the second half with the same mentality that gave them their three-goal streak and scored at 12:20 as Calvin Collins netted his second goal of the game to tie the game up at 5-5. About a minute later, Kevin Stump scored his third to give the Ephs their first lead of the game. The lead was quickly taken away at 10:10 when the Dutchmen tied the score at 6-6 after a goal by Kerry Lyne. Four minutes later, William re-took the lead after a feed from Calvin Collins and goal by John Hincks to bring the game to 7-6. Great defense was displayed by both teams which led to no scores for the remainder of the quarter. Williams was up going into the final quarter 7-6. The fourth quarter was a goal-for-goal battle by both teams starting with Union netting a score at 11:48 by Eric Zimm. Williams countered with a goal after an assist by defensive midfielder Noah McCoy and a score from Cory Lund. Three minutes later, the Dutchmen answered back with a goal by Kerry Lyne to tie the game at 8-8. At 6:42, Jake Haase led a Williams two-goal streak after a rip from him followed by Brendan Hoffman scoring his first goal of the night. Williams was up 10-8. A minute later, the Dutchmen shortened the Eph lead after netting a score from Keaton McCann. This was countered by another two Williams goals scored by Brendan Hoffman and Noah McCoy to bring the game to 9-12 with the Ephs in the lead. Soon, Union would answer with their own two goals from Keaton McCann and John Edmonds to make it a one-score game leading into the final minute of the game. The Ephs were able to fend off another Dutchmen goal and after great defense, they secured their second win of the season. Williams defeated Union 12-11. The Ephs used two goalies this evening. Harry Gahagan finished with 15 saves in the net and 59 minutes of play while Will Bock had one minute of play. The Dutchmen used one goalie this afternoon. Jack Santilli made 8 saves between the pipes. The Dutchmen were led by ­­­Kerry Lyne, Hayden Frey and Keaton McCann who all had two goals. Hayden Frey also had one assist. The Ephs were led by Kevin Stump with three goals. He was followed by Calvin Collins, Brendan Hoffman and Cory Lund who all had two goals. Other Eph scorers were Noah McCoy, John Hincks and Jase Haase. Eph head coach George McCormack stated, "Today was a very competitive game against a strong undefeated Union team as the score was back and forth all night. Alex Kitt had a very good evening taking face-offs along with both the defense and offense playing strong all four quarters". The Ephs return to action this Sunday, March 17th away in a NESCAC match-up when they will play Connecticut College, taking on the Camels at 1pm. The Union College Dutchmen will play away against Skidmore College on March 23rd at noon.
