WASHINGTON - Seven different players tallied goals as the Georgetown University men's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season with a 12-7 victory over visiting Robert Morris on Tuesday afternoon. The 12 goals were a season high for the Hoyas who improve to 1-4 on the year. Freshman Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) had a breakout game with his first career hat trick, recording four goals and an assist for a game-high five points. Sophomores Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) and Patrick Aslanian (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) added four points (2G, 2A) and three points (1G, 2A), respectively. Junior Craig Berge (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) also tallied a pair of goals, senior Peter Conley (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and sophomore Austin McDonald (Olney, Md./Georgetown Prep) chipped in a goal and an assist each while junior Peter Tagliaferri (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) added a lone goal as well. Defensively, senior long stick midfielder Michael Mayer (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) had a stellar day with a career-high nine ground balls to go with a pair of caused turnovers. All three close defenders, Conor Barr (Wilton, Conn./Fairfield Prep/Fairfield), Charlie Ford (San Carlos, Calif./St. Igantius) and Jarrett Jones (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes), along with d-middies Greg Galligan (Oyster Bay Cove, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and Ryan Hursey (Finskburg, Md./Westminster) were all credited with at least one caused turnover as well. The Hoyas put together another dominating performance at the `X' against the Colonials. Georgetown won 16-of-23 (.696) faceoffs with Tagliaferri going 9-for-13 (.692) and junior Riley Mann (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) going 7-for-10 (.700). In goal, Nick Marrocco (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) picked up his first win of the season between the pipes behind a solid 12-save performance. Georgetown jumped on the board first at the 12:44 mark as Berge collected a pass from Bucaro to take the initial lead. The Colonials responded less than two minutes later to knot things up at 1-1 before McDonald netted his first career goal 56 seconds later to retake the lead for GU. Another Berge goal with 1:13 to play in the quarter put the Hoyas up 3-1, but RMU responded with a goal with only 10 seconds remaining in the frame to seemingly stifle the momentum. On the ensuing faceoff, Tagliaferri won the draw and went `X' to crease, beating the Robert Morris keeper with just two ticks left of the clock for his first career goal as well to give Georgetown the 4-2 lead after the first. The Hoyas outscored their guests 5-1 in the second quarter to take a commanding 9-3 lead going into halftime. Carraway would log a hat trick in the frame alone, opening the scoring at the 12:35 mark followed by a Bucaro goal with 9:52 to play in the half. After a Robert Morris goal, Aslanian got in on the action courtesy of a Conley assist before Carraway closed out the half with back-to-back goals within 11 seconds of each other. Coming out of the break, Conley led things off with a man-up goal before RMU responded with two-straight scores to pull within 10-5. Carraway would add his fourth goal of the game to close out scoring in the period and give the Hoyas their 11th of the game, surpassing their previous season-best of 10. In the fourth, Georgetown controlled possession behind 3-of-4 victories on faceoffs and allowed just a pair of Colonial goals before Bucaro put the icing on the cake of the 12-7 victory with the final goal with 1:37 to play. Tyson Gibson led Robert Morris with two goals and an assist. Alex Heger collected 13 saves between the pipes in the loss. Georgetown returns to action on Saturday on the road at Hobart. Because of impending inclement weather, the site of the game has been moved indoors to the Pinnacle Athletic Campus in Victor, N.Y., at 2 p.m. Directions and links to live stats and video can be found on www.guhoyas.com.
