Rutgers men's lacrosse earned an 11-9 win over Michigan on Senior Day. The Scarlet Knights were led by seven points (six goals and an assist) from Adam Charalambides as they concluded the regular season home slate with a victory in front of 2,109 fans, friends, family and alumni. With the victory, Rutgers' senior class earned their 37th win, the most of any class in a four-year span in Rutgers men's lacrosse history. Ryan Gallagher added two goals and three assists for RU, who also received goals from Tommy Coyne, Cole Daninger and Owen Mead. Max Edelmann made 11 saves, while Alex Schoen won 16-of-21 faceoffs and collected a game-high 11 ground balls. HOW IT HAPPENED The game was fairly even throughout. Michigan took their last lead of the day at 4-3 late in the first quarter. The Scarlet Knights responded with the next two, then the Wolverines tied the game at 5-5 heading into the half. The third quarter was controlled by Rutgers, with the Scarlet Knights scoring four of the five goals in the stanza to take the largest lead of the day at 9-6 on Cole Daninger's goal with seven seconds remaining in the third quarter. Michigan got back within one at 9-8, but Charalambides had two goals down the stretch that enabled the Scarlet Knights to ensure the final 11-9 margin. QUOTABLE "I thought our guys were really focused. We've been getting better over the last month. I'm very proud of the team's effort and how hard they played to get the win today. It was great to get a win for our 11 seniors and all that they've done for our program. It's been a great class who have been very successful and have been a part of a lot of big time lacrosse here at Rutgers. The most wins as a class in a four-year period in school history, I'm very proud of them for that. A lot of those seniors were excellent today – Max Edelmann, Kyle Pless, Garrett Michaeli, Alex Schoen was outstanding today. And it's always special to win for our alumni, especially with so many of them coming back today and always supporting us, their presence is always felt and appreciated." Rutgers head coach Brian Brecht "Getting this win in front of all our family, alumni and fans was great. We fought back and dug in, and I'm proud of our effort today. Being part of all this, it's really special to me. These guys on the team are my best friends, so winning with them on a day like this is incredible." Rutgers senior Max Edelmann "This feels good. There's nothing like play with your teammates and getting a win in front of all our alumni. Everyone came together and helped Rutgers win today." Rutgers senior Garrett Michaeli POSTGAME NOTES - Rutgers has 37 wins in the past four years, the most of any graduating senior class in program history. - At halftime, Rutgers honored three NCAA Tournament teams (1974, 1984 and 2004) with their alumni returning to 'The Banks' for Alumni Appreciation Day. - Rutgers also honored alumni Mike Schambach, who tragically passed away over the summer. The team wore the name "Schambach" on the back of their jerseys. - The Scarlet Knights have won the last four games versus Michigan. - Adam Charalambides tied his career-high with six goals. - With 43 goals on the season, Charalambides tied his previous career-high for goals set in a season, which is tied for fifth all-time in Rutgers history. Next up, the Scarlet Knights travel Penn State for the regular season finale. That game will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, televised on the Big Ten Network. The following weekend (May 2-4), HighPoint.com Stadium will be the host site for the Big Ten Tournament.
