Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams closed the game with a 3-0 run, including the game-winning goal with 7:01 left by junior midfielder Andrew Collins (Brookfield, Conn.), to come away with a 10-7 victory over the visiting Roger Williams University Hawks in men’s lacrosse action this evening at Jessee/Miller Field. Trinity improves to 3-2, while the Hawks drop to 3-3 with their second setback in a row. Trinity will host Mass.-Boston on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in its next game, while Roger Williams visits Eastern Connecticut the same day at 4 p.m. With the game tied at 7-7 with 8:49 remaining thanks to back-to-back goals by Hawk sophomore Tim Mullane (Hanover, Mass.) and junior Jude Marzec (West Islip, N.Y.), Trinity did not allow a shot-on-goal the rest of the way while receiving tallies by Collins, senior captain attacker Teddy Myers (Washington, D.C.), and first-year attacher Connor McCulloch (Alexandria, Va.). The clincher came off a turnover caused by Bantam junior defenseman Will Hay (New York, N.Y.) who knocked a high pass out of the air that was scooped up by senior teammate Alex Notman (Wellesley Hills, Mass.). Myers fed Collins from behind the goal for a rocket past Hawk senior tri-captain goalkeeper Weston Nolan (Falmouth, Maine) to make it, 8-7, and scored the ninth Bantam goal unassisted with 4:07 on the clock. Trinity senior Scott Morgan (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) won the ensuing faceoff, and the Bantam defense forced consecutive Roger Williams turnovers on clear attempts down the stretch. McCullough netted the final goal with 11 seconds left. The teams had played to a 3-3 tie after one quarter with six different goal scorers, followed by a scoreless second stanza that saw the Hawks outshoot the Bantams, 10-3. Trinity came out strong in the third quarter, beginning with a laser by senior midfielder Max DeLamater (Irvington, N.Y.) from first-year Luke Valentino (Little Silver, N.J.) just 1:39 after the break. Sophomore attackman Drew Kozub (Hopkinton, Mass.) and McCulloch also scored during the 3-0 run, but Mullane scored twice in a row for the visitors to make the score, 6-5, entering the fourth frame. Kozub scored on the first possession of the fourth quarter for a 7-5 Bantam lead, but senior midfielder Chris Bova (Ridgefield, Conn.) assisted on both fourth quarter scores for the Hawks to tie the game for the last time. The squads were fairly even statistically with Roger Williams finishing with a 38-to-36 shooting advantage but putting only 16 of those on goal. Roger Williams was 2-for-6 man up and Trinity was scoreless on three man-up chances. McCullough had a hat trick and three ground balls, while DeLamater and Kozub both scored twice, and Myers and senior attackman Ben Knaus (Ross, Calif.) added a goal and an assist apiece for the Trinity offense. Morgan won eight of 16 faceoffs and five ground balls, while Nortman added two caused turnovers and five ground balls, and Myers recorded four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Trinity junior Brady Burke (Duxbury, Mass.) made nine saves. Mullane’s three goals were a team-high, while Marzec scored twice, and Bova added three assists. Junior LSM Brian Brockwell (Duxbury, Mass.) was stellar with game-highs of seven caused turnovers and six ground balls, while sophomore Connor Hillemeir (Farmington, Conn.) was 10-for-20 on faceoffs, and Nolan made 12 saves.
