The Williams College Ephs (11-2/6-2 NESCAC) defeated the Western New England Golden Bears (10-5) 19- 7 in tonight's match-up at Farley-Lamb Field on the campus of Williams College. The Ephs continue to impress by appearing in the NCAA DIII national rankings and currently they are ranked 4th in the NCAA North Poll. Western New England took control early on and scored six seconds into the game off a quick faceoff transition and goal from LSM Oskar Djusberg. Williams soon answered back with their first goal of the game at 12:19 after Jake Haase ripped a shot from fifteen yards out off an assist from Calvin Collins. Two minutes later, Williams took the lead at 2-1 after a great goal from Matthew Seligson, assisted by Kevin Stump. At 9:34, Brendan Hoffman netted his first score of the game after a shot and feed from Jake Haase. Fifteen seconds after a timeout, the Ephs netted their fourth goal of the game from Kevin Stump assisted by John Hincks. The Golden Bears countered quickly to bring the deficit down to 2 with a score unassisted from Hunter Cocks. Williams was up 4 – 2 at the end of the first period. After a quick faceoff win, Williams netted the first goal of the second at 14:48 on a feed from Jake Haase and a score by Cory Lund. Eph Kevin Stump soon scored and brought the game to 6 – 2 after an assist from Cory Lund. Western New England answered back at 10:46 with a goal from Tim Breau, assisted by Mike Bannon. The Bears netted a second-straight goal two minutes later after a slam-dunk from Tim Breau to bring the game to 6 – 4. At 4:41, Jared Strauss gave the Ephs back their three-score lead after a snipe on the run unassisted. Thirty seconds later, Williams LSM Rock Stewart scored off a bounce-shot to give the Ephs a four-goal lead. One-minute left in the quarter, Brendan Hoffman scored in mid-air after an assist from Jake Haase to give the Ephs a 9 -5. In the final minute, Kevin Stump netted a buzzer-beater with 4.8 seconds left in the quarter. Williams was up 10 – 4 going into halftime. Williams came out of halftime with a similar mentality that found success in the first half and scored two straight goals early in the third by Jake Haase and Jared Strauss to give the Ephs an eight-score lead. At 9:21 on a man-up opportunity, Western New England scored off a goal by Matt Greer. One minute later, the Ephs answered back with a goal from Jared Strauss with an assist from Brendan Hoffman to bring the game to 13 – 5. Three minutes to go in the quarter, the Bears cut down the Eph lead to seven after a score from Mike Bannon. The Ephs were up 13 – 6 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Ephs determined to end the game victorious put on a show in the final quarter, scoring four-straight goals by Cory Lund, Calvin Collins, Kevin Stump and Tim Saffold to pull away from the Bears at 17 – 6. At 3:23, Western New England netted their seventh goal of the game after freshman Luke Serdechny scored unassisted. This was soon topped by Eph Tim Saffold's second goal of the game after an assist from Will Swindell. With thirty seconds left in the game, Will Swindell scored a goal of his own unassisted to give the Ephs a twelve-score lead. Williams defeated the Western New England Golden Bears 19 – 7. The Ephs used one goalie this game. Sophomore Harry Gahagan had 5 saves. The Bears used two goalies tonight. Sean McCuster had 17 saves with 48 minutes of play while Mark Zimmerman had 3 saves with 12 minutes of play. The Bears were led by Tim Breau with two scores and one assist. He was followed by Mike Bannon with one goal and two assists. The Ephs were led by Kevin Stump with four goals and two assists. He was followed by Jared Strauss with three goals and one assist and Jake Haase with two goals and four assists. Tim Saffold and Brendan Hoffman also had two scores each. Other Williams scorers were Calvin Collins, Will Swindell, Rock Stewart and Matthew Seligson. Eph head coach George McCormack stated, "Our team played exceptional tonight. The defense had another strong game and some young players got some time and took advantage of the opportunities given." The Ephs return to action this Saturday, April 20th home when they play Bowdoin College, taking on the Polar Bears in a NESCAC match-up at 1pm. Western New England will next play against Colorado College home in a match-up on Friday April 19th, taking them on at 4pm.
