Mercer started fast and never looked back, scoring a 17-8 victory on a rainy day in Georgia. Mercer blitzed the Bonnies from the opening whistle, winning the faceoff and firing a quick shot into the back of the cage for a 1-0 lead just six seconds in. The Bears grabbed a second goal at the 13:58 mark, but Austin Blumbergs got the Bonnies on the board a minute later with his third of the year. Mercer (4-1) ultimately raced out to a 6-1 lead in the first quarter, but the Bonnies got back within a manageable 6-3 deficit after the first 15 minutes following goals from Jackson Rose and Matthew DeGirolamo. Unfortunately for the Bonnies, the Bears would seize the control right back. Mercer scored four of the first five goals in the second quarter and led 9-3 before a long strike from Zack Belter. At the half, the hosts owned an 11-4 lead. Jake Rosa ended the Mercer run with his fifth goal of the season, but the Bonnies would get no closer down the stretch. Freshmen Brett Beetow, Jake Emmick and Bryan Rafferty added goals for the Bonnies. Sean Goldsmith delivered seven goals and eight points for the Bears. The Bonnies (0-6) open MAAC play next Saturday, March 14 at Detroit Mercy with game time slated for noon.
