For the third time in six years, Northwestern will face off in the Big Ten championship game after defeating #3 Michigan, 19-9. Led by a team-high five goals from both senior Selena Lasota and sophomore Lauren Gilbert, the Wildcats outscored the Wolverines 10-6 in the first half and 9-3 in the second. The 'Cats had contributions from Junior Lindsey McKone and first-year Izzy Scane each scoring three goals, Claire Quinn had two and Liza Elder had one. McKone and Scane also passed for a combined five assists. The two teams traded goals back and forth early in the first half, before with Cats went on a 7-2 run with just over 18:30 left in the first half to go up four goals. NU carried their momentum into the second half, going on it 7-1 run in the first ten minutes to take a 17-7 lead and claim a spot in the championship game on Sunday. In goal for the 'Cats, senior Mallory Weisse grabbed a game-high 10 saves for the fifth consecutive double digit game.
