Senior Hannah Powers broke the Patriot League Tournament record for goals by scoring eight in a 20-12 semifinal win over fifth-seeded Colgate at Ridley Athletic Complex Thursday night, securing the top-seeded and 11th-ranked Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team a spot in the title game for a sixth-straight season. Powers also added an assist to finish with a game-high nine points for the Greyhounds (14-4 overall). Sophomore Livy Rosenzweig contributed eight points, scoring four goals and adding four assists, while senior Emily Cooper also scored four times. Sophomore Sam Fiedler finished the game with two goals and three assists, while senior Amanda Ignacio and sophomore Liz Scott tacked on one goal apiece. Sophomore Elli Kluegel rounded out the scoring with an assist. Danielle Van Calcar led Colgate (8-10) with three goals, while Tara Atkinson had five points on two goals and three assists. The Greyhounds found themselves trailing early on, as they needed goals from Cooper and Rosenzweig to tie the game at 2-2 and 3-3, respectively. Rosenzweig's goal at 18:25 sparked a nine-goal run for Loyola that saw the Greyhounds stretch their lead to eight, 11-3, by the 7:38 mark of the first half. Powers scored four times in the run, while Rosenzweig had two and Ignacio, Cooper and Fiedler finished with one apiece. Colgate snapped the streak at 6:44 and sandwiched goals around one from Cooper to bring the halftime score to 12-5 in favor of Loyola. Powers started the second-half scoring with back-to-back goals, pushing Loyola ahead 14-5. The two squads traded five goals after that, moving the score to 16-8, before the Raiders scored two of the next three, to pull within seven, 17-10. Scott and Rosenzweig netted back-to-back scores to stretch Loyola's lead back to nine, 19-10, before two-straight from the Raiders brought Colgate back within seven, 19-12, with 38 seconds to play. Cooper's free position goal as time expired rounded out the scoring in the contest. In addition to scoring a career-high eight goals, Powers also won five draw controls and secured three ground balls, while senior Taylor VanThof also won five draw controls. Rosenzweig finished with four draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. In goal, senior Kady Glynn stopped seven shots in 45 minutes, while sophomore Kaitlyn Larsson finished with two saves.
