In a matchup of the two best teams in women's college lacrosse, No. 1 Maryland ended No. 2 Boston College's run at the program's first national championship as the Terps captured a 12-10 victory. A sellout crowd of 9,433 – the fourth best crowd for an NCAA Tournament championship game - were in attendance for Sunday's thrilling national championship game at Homewood Field in Baltimore. BC's season ended at 22-2 overall as the Eagles tied their school record for single-season wins. BC also won 22 games in 2018. BC made its third consecutive appearance in the national championship game. The Eagles are just the fifth school to appear in three straight NCAA title games, joining Maryland, Northwestern, Princeton and Penn State. Maryland entered halftime with an 8-4 lead. The Terps ripped off three straight goals to push its lead from 5-3 to 8-3 before Sam Apuzzo's second goal of the first half closed out the scoring. The Terps held BC to just one goal over the final 11 minutes of the opening half. BC battled throughout the second half and cut the lead to 12-10 with 3:50 remaining on Kenzie Kent's fifth goal of the game. The Terrapin defense made the two-goal lead stand. Kent led BC with five goals and six points on the day. Sam Apuzzo tallied three goals and four points while Dempsey Arsenault and Cara Urbank each scored a goal for the Eagles. Apuzzo, Arsenault and Kent each earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Lauren Daly was tremendous in goal for the Eagles as she finished with eight saves. The Terps defeated the Eagles 16-13 in the 2017 national championship game while BC earned a 15-13 win in the national semifinals over Maryland. BC made its third consecutive appearance in the national championship game. The Eagles are just the fifth school to appear in three straight NCAA title games, joining Maryland, Northwestern, Princeton and Penn State. The Eagles are 12-8 all-time in the NCAA tournament. BC has appeared in the NCAAs eight times in school history. Apuzzo has scored at least one goal in 79 of her 80 career games played. She finishes her senior season with 124 points.
