The top ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team opened Capital Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 15-3 win over host University of Mary Washington. Senior midfielder Zach Pompea achieved a lacrosse milestone in the victory as he notched the 100th point of his career behind a team-best four-goal performance. Pompea found the back of the net twice in the opening frame as part of a six-goal run to open the game for the maroon and gold. Tyler Snyder, who finished his day with two goals and two assists, got the Sea Gulls (11-0, 1-0 CAC) on the board less than three minutes into the contest, notching one of Salisbury's four man up tallies for the afternoon. Pompea found the back of the net just over a minute later to push the lead to 2-0 before capping the run, finishing off Corey Gwin's lone assist of the afternoon. Pompea netted both second quarter markers, firing home a man up goal off a feed from Josh Melton to push the advantage to 7-3, while finishing off an unassisted effort with five minutes left to play in the first 30 minutes to give the visitors an 8-3 advantage at the break. The defense was equally as impressive, holding the Eagles (6-5, 0-1 CAC) scoreless over the final three quarters of play after allowing three goals in the final three and a half minutes of the opening frame. Eight different players recorded a caused turnover, with Brad Apgar and Kevin Murphy each recording one and scooping up three groundballs, while Jackson Woodward scooped up four to lead all defensive players. Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, April 6 when it travels to Frostburg State University for a showdown with the Bobcats. Faceoff is set for 11 a.m.
