Top-ranked Salisbury jumped out to an 8-3 lead after the first quarter of play and never looked back in a 21-6 defeat of Frostburg, Saturday in CAC men's lacrosse action. The Bobcats (7-4, 0-1) played the Sea Gulls close over the first half of the first quarter as sophomore Jason Clinton scored at 12:46 and junior Paul Ruppert found the cage at 8:50 as the hosts trailed just 3-2 as the game neared the midway point of the first. Salisbury answered by rattling off six-consecutive goals starting at 7:28 and ending with 3:10 showing for an 8-2 cushion. Corey Gwin scored twice during the outburst for the Gulls (12-0, 2-0). Junior Jimmy Lucas closed the first with his only goal of the afternoon, an unassisted tally at 1:52. Cross Ferrara for Salisbury and FSU's Clinton traded goals to open the second frame before the visitors took control of the contest with the next 12 scores that stretched into the fourth quarter for a 21-4 lead. Jarrett Bromwell started the run at 9:13 in the second and Cole Ament closed the scoring for SU with a score at 10:33 in the fourth. Ruppert found the net at 9:30 and sophomore Shawn Winans scored the final goal of the game with 9:06 to play to bring the final to 21-6. Ruppert and Clinton each scored twice to lead FSU. Sophomore defender Garret Colvin forced Salisbury into four turnovers and he picked up four ground balls. Bobcat starting keeper Jack Marks stopped 12 shots against the nation's second-best scoring offense. Sophomore Cory McAndrew and junior Kevin Reuther each added three saves in relief of Marks. Gwin powered SU with eight points on four goals and four assists, while Pierre Armstrong had five assists and one goal. Salisbury entered the afternoon as the nation's top scoring defense and it limited Frostburg to 22 shots. SU also held a 55-28 edge in ground balls. Frostburg returns to action this Wednesday when it travels to No. 5 York (Pa.) at 7:00 pm.
