The Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team held Bridgewater scoreless for the final 23:33 of the game to post a 10-7 victory over the Eagles on Wednesday evening at Wilson Field. Bridgewater (0-3) scored three straight goals, including two by senior attackman Eric Husselbaugh, to take a 7-5 lead with 8:33 left in the third quarter. However, the Generals' defense clamped down from that point on and W&L tacked on five tallies in the final 20:46 of the game to pull away for the three-goal win. The W&L defense killed off several man-down situations throughout the game, including twice when the Generals were down two men. On the offensive end, the Generals began their comeback from the two-goal deficit with 5:46 left in the third period when senior midfielder Ben Mulholland (Sewickley, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) scored man-up off an assist from senior attackman Stuart Greenspon (Aldie, Va. / Episcopal) to make it 7-6. The Generals then scored three goals in a span of 25 seconds to assume the lead for good. Junior midfielder Tommy MacCowatt (New Vernon, N.J. / Delbarton) knotted the score at 7-7 with 4:36 left in the third period when he scored unassisted, and sophomore attackman Will Schnorr (Paoli, Pa. / Conestoga) gave W&L an 8-7 lead when he scored an unassisted tally just 17 seconds later. Sophomore midfielder Will Bou (Chevy Chase, Md. / Landon) then won the ensuing faceoff and fed senior attackman Austin Hudson (Baltimore, Md. / Gilman) for another goal just eight seconds later for a 9-7 lead. Sophomore midfielder Henry Holliday (Washington, D.C. / St. Albans) ended the scoring with 9:45 left in the game, scoring unassisted for his team-leading third goal of the game. The first half was a back-and-forth affair that featured three ties. W&L jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening six minutes and change, but the Eagles scored twice to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the second quarter. Neither team led by more than a goal from that point on until the Eagles' three-goal run midway through the third period gave them the 7-5 advantage. W&L held advantages of 44-30 in shots and 26-25 in ground balls. The Generals also won 13-of-21 faceoffs in the game. Holliday tied his career high with three goals, while Greenspon had two goals and one assist. Mulholland scored two goals and MacCowatt finished with one goal and two assists. Senior Jack Taylor (Baltimore, Md. / Saint Paul's) was rock solid in goal, finishing the game with 15 saves in 60 minutes of action. Bou finished the game 12-of-16 on faceoffs. Junior attackman Chris Martel led the Eagles with three goals. Husselbaugh totaled two goals and junior attackman Connor McLean had one goal and one assist. Junior Robbie Noyes played all 60 minutes in goal and registered 14 saves. Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Hampden-Sydney for a 7:00 pm contest.
