Visiting Bridgewater College scored the final two goals of the game to escape with a 10-8 ODAC men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Wednesday evening. After Shenandoah (3-1, 1-1 ODAC) tied the game at 8-8 with a five-goal run, Bridgewater (2-3, 2-3) tallied two goals in the final 82 seconds to steal the win. IN BRIEF BC scored the game-winner following a failed SU clear after a save. Hunter Becker picked off the Hornets clearing pass and fed Chris Martel on the doorstep, where Martel threw two stick fakes before dumping his shot into an empty net. The Eagles then won the ensuing faceoff and with Shenandoah applying heavy press, Eric Husselbaugh stuffed home an insurance goal with 35 seconds remaining. BC, which won 11 of 20 draws at the 'x', won the final faceoff to ice the victory. The two goals spoiled a great comeback from five goals down for the Hornets. Trailing 8-3 after Bridgewater scored with nine seconds left in the third, Shenandoah began its comeback four minutes into the fourth. Jet Hayes started a five-goal run for the hosts by converting a Logan Clingerman feed at 10:52, and then sophomore Chris Baker took over. The attackman had a hand in the game's next four goals, scoring three times and assisting Tyler Held on another, to knot the game at 8-8. His final goal came at 2:30. Bridgewater won the faceoff following Baker's final tally, setting up the sequence that led to the game-winning goal. SU outshot the Eagles, 50-37, while the two teams split 72 groundballs. Hornets goalkeeper Gabe Russell made 11 saves to 18 for Bridgewater's Robbie Noyes. UP NEXT Shenandoah continues this homestand with a 1 p.m. Saturday ODAC contest versus Randolph-Macon.
