Senior Jordan Krug etched his name in the Cabrini men's lacrosse history book today, as the senior became just the second player in program history to record 300 career points. Krug surpassed the mile stone with a game-high seven points, as the No 7 Cavaliers scored hard fought 17-11 victory over Stevenson University today at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Krug paired four goals and three assists to join Casey Grugan (2007-10 – 334 points) as the only players to reach the milestone. Junior Jakob Klein added six points on two goals and four assists, while sophomore Kyle Tucker added four markers and a helper. Junior Mike Gerzabek chipped in with two goals and a helper. While the Cabrini offense secured the wire to wire win, the Blue and White defense fell just short of a season-high with 17 caused turnovers. Senior Nick Vass and junior Tommy DeLuca tallied four each, while senior Sean Wagner forced a pair. Seventeen Cavaliers accounted for the team's 44 ground balls, with junior Robert Cressman and sophomore Luke McCallion securing five each, one more than Krug, Wagner and sophomore Nick Werner. McCallion also controlled the faceoff spot, winning 18 of his 28 chances at the X. Senior goaltender Riley White improved to 14-2 on the season after recording six saves, three ground balls and a caused turnover. Klein opened the scoring midway through the first quarter, but the Mustangs needed just 30 seconds to even the score. The tie was short-lives as Klein found Tucker 20 seconds later to put Cabrini in the lead. Trailing 3-1 late in the first, Stevenson tabbed back to back goals to even the game at 3-3, but junior Kyle Myers found Tucker for a goal with 2:09 left in the period to give the Blue and White a lead it would not relinquish. The Cavaliers scored four of the first five goals of the second quarter, as Krug second goal extended Cabrini's lead to 8-4 with 6:01 left until the half. Stevenson took advantage of three Cabrini flags late in the half to net three unanswered goals, pulling to within 8-7 at the break. Cabrini emerged from the halftime break and essentially put the game away with four consecutive goals in the opening 2:28 of the third quarter, including man-up goals by Krug and Klein. The Mustangs remained within arm's reach, pulling to within 13-9 with 15 minutes to play, but the Blue and White got off to another hot start in the final period. Krug, Tucker and junior Kevin Leyden marked the scoring column in the opening four minutes of the quarter, extending Cabrini's lead to a game-high 16-9. The Cavaliers outshot the visitors 53-36, including 26-13 after the halftime break, among Stevenson's lowest shot totals of the season. The Blue and White defensive effort also pressured the Mustangs into a season-high 27 turnovers and held them to 18-24 clear attempts. Senior Grey McKee and junior Ethan Christensen tallied four points each for the Mustangs (8-7), while sophomore Jacob Tatum matched McKee with three goals. Junior goaltender Marc Poust suffered the loss despite 17 saves. The Cavaliers will close their regular season on Wednesday, when it visits Immaculata University (2-12, 0-5 Atlantic East). Game time is slated for 4pm in Immaculata, PA.
