The No. 15 Ursinus College men's lacrosse team did its best to come back from a huge hole, but a furious fourth-quarter rally sputtered out a few goals short in an 11-8 loss to No. 13 Dickinson on Senior Day. With the setback, the Bears (11-3, 5-3) slipped to the No. 4 seed in the Centennial Conference tournament and will travel to No. 1 seed Franklin & Marshall for a semifinal showdown on Wednesday. The Red Devils grabbed the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 2 Gettysburg at the Battlefield. Ursinus found itself ahead 2-1 after a man-up goal by junior Evan Scott, but Dickinson (11-5, 5-3) scored seven seconds later and went on a huge run from there, scoring nine straight goals to go up 10-2 before the home side finally ended the dry spell late in the third quarter. Freshman Tommy Reinhart's extra-man marker from Scott was followed by another Red Devils goal as the Bears entered the fourth quarter trailing 11-3. Ursinus made its move right away, spurred on by an unexpected source as junior Ben Minardi scored his first two goals of the year just 54 seconds apart to make it 11-5. Sophomore Hakan Atillasoy got on the score sheet, then set up the second marker of the day by junior Sam Mutz before senior Tim Carroll's unassisted strike just 49 seconds later cut the margin to three (11-8) with 3:04 to play. The Bears nearly got even closer, but Mutz' mid-range rocket rang off the crossbar and the Red Devils were able to kill the clock. Mutz matched Minardi with two goals and added an assist, while Atillasoy had a goal and two helpers. Scott finished with one goal and one assist. Junior Nolan Sachs racked up six ground balls and joined senior Alex Middleman and junior Noah Frantz with two caused turnovers. Frantz also won three faceoffs for Ursinus, which was just 8-for-23 in the circle. Dickinson finished with a 49-36 advantage in shots, though the Bears fired off 17 shots in the fourth quarter to just three for the Red Devils. Cole Pellicano stopped 12 shots between the pipes, including eight in the first half. Senior Nick Kirk collected 13 saves in his final collegiate home game.
