Dartmouth men's lacrosse defeated Binghamton, 11-7, in the first-ever meeting between the teams at Scully-Fahey Field on Saturday. Matt Paul had a hat trick and added two assists to match his season-high of five points, while nine other players ended up with at least a point. "We did a good job of playing with the lead today," head coach Brendan Callahan said. "It felt like every time Binghamton made a run, we were able to answer back and that was big for us. The two guys who really stood out were Danny with his big-time performance in net and Kiernan at the X. "I thought we played much better on the ground today than the last time out and it was good to see us out-ground ball them," Callahan continued. "It wasn't a pretty win for us and we have a lot of things that we have to clean up heading into Tuesday. But, I'm excited that we found a way to get it done today." Goals by Ben Martin, Paul and a collegiate first for Colin Prince gave the Big Green a 3-0 edge with 5:15 to go in the opening quarter. The Bearcats were stopped multiple times by Daniel Hincks until they got one of their own with under two minutes to go to head to the second still down by two. Binghamton netted its second tally 20 seconds into the second, but George Prince gave Dartmouth its two-goal advantage back a few minutes later with a man-up marker. It took another 10 minutes of back-and-forth play before Andrew Cave's first of his career put a little more distance between the teams (5-2). Seven goals were netted in a 10-minute span to open the second half. After scoring twice within 30 seconds, the Bearcats got within one (6-5) but were kept out of the net for the remaining 6:52 of the third while Harlan Smart, G. Prince and Paul gave Dartmouth its first four-goal lead of the game (9-5). After a Green goal was waved off at the start of the fourth, the Prince brothers responded to that by teaming up to put Dartmouth up by five, giving the younger Prince his second tally of the day. Back-to-back Binghamton goals got the Bearcats back in the game, but another Smart marker at 3:55 put a comeback out of reach for the visitors (11-7). Hincks had a great game, making 15 saves to pick up his second win of the season. Kiernan Gunn took on all faceoff duties, going 13-for-21 at the X. Dartmouth will be on the road on Tuesday, March 19, when it takes on St. John's.
