The Hobart College lacrosse team topped Colgate 12-6 in a non-conference game played on Crown Field at Andy Kerr Stadium in Hamilton, N.Y., today. Senior Chris Aslanian dished out a game-high four assists, and junior Eric Holden notched a game-high four goals for the Statesmen. Hobart improves to 6-1 this season, while Colgate falls to 3-4 overall. First-year Derek Madonna chipped in three goals for the Statesmen. It was first collegiate hat trick. Junior Justin Scott logged a goal and two assists. First-year Jason Knox tallied two goals and sophomore Ryan Archer added a goal and an assist. Junior Sam Mueller registered two caused turnovers. Senior Matthew Pedicine scooped up a game-high six ground balls. He won 10-of-21 faceoffs. Junior Sam Lucchesi played all 60 minutes in goal and made 11 saves. Marshall Terres led Colgate with three goals. Griffin Brown added a goal and an assist. Nick Salameda caused two turnovers. Will Blumenberg and Malcom Feeney each had a team-high four ground balls. Feeney won 11 of the 19 faceoffs he took. Connor Mullen finished with 10 saves in goal for the Raiders. The Statesmen built a 3-2 lead in the first quarter. Madonna scored the first goal of the game 1:10 in. The Raiders scored the next two goals to take what proved to be their only lead of the game. James Caddigan scored first, and Terres gave Colgate the upper hand with 5:27 left in the first. The Statesmen responded with unassisted goals from sophomore Wylie Sherman and Holden to take back the lead, which they would not let go of for the remainder. Hobart would go on to score six straight goals from the end of the first quarter through the start of the third. The second quarter featured just two goals. The first came from Holden off a feed from Scott with 2:54 on the clock. Knox found the back of the net for an extra-man goal, his first goal of the game, after a pass from Archer with 1:07 on the clock, to give the Statesmen a 4-2 advantage at halftime. Holden logged his fifth hat trick of the season, 35 seconds into the third quarter. Archer scored his 14th goal this year off an assist from Scott to make it 7-2 with 10:03 left in the third. Bobby Goggin broke up the run for the Raiders, scoring with 5:14 on the clock to make it 7-3. The Statesmen closed out the third quarter with three more goals and started a five-goal run that would span into the final quarter. Aslanian notched four straight assists at the start of the run. Knox scored with 4:20 left in the third. Madonna followed with an extra-man goal, and Holden snuck in his fourth goal of the afternoon and 22nd this season with two seconds left in the third quarter. Just 2:25 into the fourth quarter, Madonna rounded out his hat trick. Scott produced his third point of the day, finding the back of the net to make it 12-3 with 9:42 left in the game. Colgate scored three straight goals to close out the final quarter. Hobart finished with a 41-31 advantage in shots and a 30-24 lead in ground balls. The Statesmen finished 17-of-18 clear attempts. Colgate was successful on 15-of-20 clear attempts. Hobart was 2-for-4 with the man advantage, while the Raiders scored on just one of four extra man opportunities. The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, March 23, when they travel to take on Sacred Heart in an NEC game at noon.
