Visiting Young Harris took a 7-3 lead after a quarter and held on to top Catwaba 17-13 in men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Mountain Lions up their record to 2-3, while the Catawba Indians fall to 0-3. Young Harris never trailed, scoring seven of the first nine goals. A three-goal Catawba run, capped by a Joey Lindler goal pulled the Indians within 8-6 early in the second quarter. The Mountain Lions answered that run and tallied five of the final six goals of the half to lead 13-7. Down 16-10, Catawba made a late run after a pair of goals from Keegan Maxwell and another from Yasir Stroud to make it 16-13 with 2:20 to go. Catawba failed on a chance to get closer and Cody Bielec sealed the game for YHC on a goal with 45 seconds remaining. Maxwell led Catawba with four goals. Stroud and Jared Hadley each scored twice. Defender Payton Leonard had goal, caused three turnovers and had three ground balls. Shawn Casebolt won 19-of-33 face-offs and posted a dozen ground balls. Kevin Geiger recorded 13 saves. Bielec and Thomas Semple each scored five goals for Young Harris. Beau Henson and Sam Gasta scored twice and Daniel Zimny produced four assists. Bryce Parrish notched 19 saves in goal for the Mountain Lions. Catawba will host Maryville (Mo.) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
