– Despite a career-high 16 saves from Charlie Wilson, the Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse team fell to North Greenville, 11-7, in the Eagles' 2020 home opener. The win moved NGU's season record to 2-4, while the Blue and Gold dropped to 1-5. Jacob Schripsema led the Eagles with three goals and added three ground balls, while Coleman Jacobs tallied two goals on 17 shots. Marcus Needham added a goal and two assists and Mitchell Cody notched three assists and three ground balls. Wilson made 16 saves on 27 shots for a career-best .593 save percentage. The Crusaders got on the board first with a pair of goals in the opening three minutes of play. Schripsema scored the first Eagle goal at the 11:30 mark of the first quarter and followed that up with a game-tying goal two minutes later to make it 2-2. Over the final 9:29 of the quarter, Embry-Riddle could only muster two shots, both of which were saved, as NGU tallied two more goals to go ahead, 4-2. In the second quarter, ERAU peppered the Crusader net with 19 shots, 10 of which were on goal. Unfortunately for the Eagles, NGU goalkeeper Braeden Dixon stopped nine of the 10 shots on goal in the period, with Jacobs' goal at the 12:19 the only marker for the Blue and Gold. The Crusaders scored twice in the first 66 seconds of the quarter and added a late goal to take a 7-3 lead at halftime. Needham got the first goal of the second half, scoring a man-up tally 51 seconds into the third quarter to cut the deficit to 7-4. North Greenville answered with a goal almost two minutes later and added another with 5:25 to play in the period, which would prove to be the final goal of the third, as NGU carried a 9-4 advantage into the final quarter. The Eagles played their best quarter in the fourth, outscoring the Crusaders 3-2. NGU got on the board early before Jacobs scored his second of the game at the 10:19 mark to make it 10-5. Lars Hoeg scored with 4:01 to play to make it 10-6, but North Greenville responded 80 seconds later to regain a five-goal cushion. Schripsema completed his hat trick just 12 seconds after the Crusader goal, but that would be the final tally of the game, with the Crusaders earning the 11-7 win. The Blue and Gold return to action on Thursday when Walsh comes to Daytona Beach for a 7 p.m. contest at the ERAU Lacrosse Field.
