DENVER – The University of Denver women's lacrosse team defeated San Diego State 14-10 on Friday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium, in Denver's final non-conference game before opening BIG EAST play on March 19 against Butler. Inside the Box Score: Caroline Wiseman, Kayla DeRose and Eliza Radochonski all had hat tricks to lead the way for the Pioneers on Friday afternoon. Bea Behrins and Kailey Conry also had three points on a goal and two assists. On the defense side, Sam Thacker and Kailee Lammers led the way with three caused turnovers apiece, while Behrins also added two. In the circle, Molly Little led the Pioneers with four draw controls, Radochonski had three and Sammie Morton picked up a pair. First Half: Denver raced to a 6-0 lead to start things off on Friday. Radochonski's ninth of the season, three from Wiseman, a goal from DeRose and a goal from Wallevand completed the run for Denver. Behrins had two assists in the run that gave the Pioneers an early cushion. San Diego State's scoreless spell lasted 22:26. Bailey Brown got the Aztecs first goal, her ninth of the year. Radochonski and DeRose scored Denver's final two goals of the half, and the Pioneers took an 8-4 lead into the intermission. Second Half: The Aztecs got to within three two minutes into the second half before Denver went on a 4-1 run to push its advantage to 12-6 with 17:56 to play. Behrins, Conry, Wallevand and Charlotte Boote scored for the Pioneers in the run. San Diego State got the lead back down to four twice, but goals from Radochonski and DeRose down the stretch kept the Aztecs at an arms-length from the Pioneers, sending Denver to its second-straight win. Significant Stats: Denver converted on four of its eight free-position shots, while holding San Diego State to 3-of-9. The Pioneers took care of the ball on Friday, turning it over just 11 times, while turning San Diego State over 22 times. UP NEXT: Denver will open BIG EAST play with a two-game set against Butler. The first game is set for next Friday (March 19) at 1 p.m. MT. The series finale is set for a 11 a.m. MT opening draw on Sunday, March 21.
